Hi folks, have been fighting with this issue for long two days and nights:

iPhone 11 Pro Max while updating (through Wi-Fi) from 15 to 15.0.1 got stuck in recovery mode, displaying the cable and pc.

Tried to update / restore through iTunes but every time it reaches a moment “verifying update with apple servers” iTunes displays a dialogue box that the phone can not be updated / restored and that unknown error occurred (9). And the iPhone goes back to the recovery mode. NO SUCCESS.

Tried to force reboot, DFU. NO SUCCESS.

Tried with different laptops, pc, macs, cables, isps - NO SUCCESS.

Tried with third party servicemen (no official apple service here yet). NO SUCCESS.

Becoming desperate. Count on your help..

here are the details:

Phone: iPhone 11 Pro Max. unlocked. Bought at apple store in NY. No subscription, never been dropped, dipped into water etc

Cable: original from the box.

iTunes: the newest version 12.12.1 on pc

The same combination of the iTunes, laptop, cable and internet service provider had already been used to update another iPhones of my family members and worked well.

Please help. Looked a lot before posting but did not find any answer. I admit hardware issue born while updating? Would try every possibility before looking into hardware.

Try 3uTools I’ve found in my experience iTunes to be garbage so I quit using it a while back.

Are you using iTunes from Apple and not the iTunes from the Microsoft Store right?

Do not use the one from Microsoft and get it from Apple. Latest is 12.12.1.1 so you might try to update it.

If you still have problem, then try this below.

Connect your iPhone to computer and launch Device Manager. Scroll down to find Universal Serial Bus controllers and right click Apple Device Mobile USB Driver for Properties update or rollback driver and test. If it still doesn't, uninstall Apple Device Mobile USB Driver and click the computer screen icon to rescan for hardware changes.

If you don't see that driver then you'll need to do this
Device Manager>View>Show Hidden Devices

Thank you for your reply. I am afraid none of these solutions work in my case. The phone keeps behaving the same way and the itunes displays error 9. The same on other multiple computers that I have tried today. It brings me to the conclusion that this is a hardware problem. Out of nowhere... Thanks Apple...
