Got Windows 7 installed, problem with the Boot Camp 64-bit drivers?

Edit: I'm editing my old thread, so I finally got Windows 7 installed. I had to have another version of Windows on it before it would allow me to install it, and then I had to make sure it booted to the Windows HDD and not the Windows 7 disc upon reboot.

But now of course I've got another problem. It seems to me after I install the Boot Camp drivers, something happens... I get the blue screen, Windows can't start correctly and it tries repairing itself on the next reboot. Well repairing or system restore doesn't help, and I reinstall it. Same thing happens.

Is there something wrong with the 64-bit drivers? I updated it with the Vista 64-bit update.

Ok, so I've been trying to install Windows 7 on an internal drive that's not my boot drive. When I get to where it ask me about which drive I want to install Windows on, I select it, says it needs to be formated, I do that, and then it gives me this error message...

"Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the setup log files for more information."

I've tried doing it three or four times and every time I get the same thing. Anyone know what's going on?

Edit: I guess I should add that nothing appears to be wrong with the drive, OSX recognizes it. It only has one partition.

Well I tried it with another drive and it did the same thing... so I'm completely at a loss.

Anyone? Any ideas?

What format is the drive in now? Format it with disk utility into Fat32 and then try setup again perhaps.

Win 7 has to be installed on a NTFS partition.

What you want to do it not just reformat the drive, you want to delete the old partition, create a new parition, and then format the drive.

Exactly. Delete the old partition. Create a new partition (Boot Camp). Install windows (which will format it to NTFS).

choose the "right" partition (bootcamp) and then use option: format ..
all this with the win7 dvd.

I've already tried all those things using Disk Utility and Boot Camp.

Rychy have you installed Vista or XP on your MAC Pro in the past? My experience is with MBP's where you have only the one internal drive and BootCamp Assistant creates the partition. By definition the drive is already bootable and has a GUID format (with the hidden EFI partition). All black magic. Now on a MAC Pro and installing to a drive that is not the OSX boot drive you are outside of my personal experience.

If I had your problem, with my background, I would make bootable backups to external drives and aside them. I would then try BootCamp Assistant on my OSX boot drive and see if I could install Win7 in this environment.

Just a thought.

I have a old copy of XP from my Windows days... slipstreaming SP2, and burning a bootable copy was of course harder than it needed to be but I got it working and has able to install XP on the internal HDD.

I tried installing Windows 7 over the XP partition. And it finally allowed me past the partition selection screen. Everything appeared to be fine, it was installing Windows 7, but after the reset it started the process over again like it hadn't done anything. Worst of all XP was no longer bootable, and when I tried to install it again, I got the error message.

This is really getting on my nerves. No one else appears to be having this problem.

If I had your problem, with my background, I would make bootable backups to external drives and aside them. I would then try BootCamp Assistant on my OSX boot drive and see if I could install Win7 in this environment.
