Hi 3GS folks,

we're really proud to introduce Gotcha! today. We've made a security system & motion alarm which provides the real lock mode that comes with iPhone OS.

And we put GPS-tracking, logging, E-Mail & twitter messaging and some (we think) cool alarm sounds in that new app. It disables your ringer volume keys as well as your silent switch and watches out while your iPhone is in sleep or locked mode.

We really would like to know: What is your view on that concept?

Best wishes from level 61. :)

Thanks a lot...

...for your suggestions, compliments and feature requests we got per E-Mail.

We'll go into details and are working on expanding functions.

Best wishes from Level 61 :)

Hi Level 61,

I downloaded your app yesterday on my iphone and have several problems with it;

1. I can't get my email account set up so it can sent a test email to me cause it requires my yahoo smtp server which I don't have and can't understand why Gotcha would need to ask for it when other apps don't? Is this how you guys programed it? Can't say that's being user-friendly. Keep it simple. Even iphone doesn't need my yahoo smtp server to get my email working on it but Gotcha needs it?

2. I set it up to also tweet my twitter account but despite trying the test message....nothing happened. No messages was sent to me via twitter.

3. Arming it was a cinch, but silencing the alarm was equally easy so what's the point of having an armed iphone that a would be thief could silence the alarm in 3 secs flat!?!? I just hit the home button on my iphone then hit that great big old button of the alarm bell and the alarms stops buzzing!

And by the way, no message(s) was sent to my twitter account to alert me that my phone alarm had been triggered nor any so called GPS location of my phone was sent.

So please provide me an Gotcha for Dummies guide to me or I might just as well delete this app from my iphone for good!

Matt

Level61...please reply to my post. I need help with Gotcha! If you are not going to reply then I will delete Gotcha which unfortunate coz I think it's a great product but some help is needed here.

Gotcha! still not emailing or tweeting me

Oh well...I guess it's another good idea that doesn't work!

i managed to get my email working....tested the email and tweet and both worked fine. Only problem is when the alarm sounded....I didn't get any email or tweet notification much less a location notification.

And i thought Gotcha was supposed to do that...send me the GPS location of my stolen iphone!?!?

Level61 where are u? If I don't hear from you guys who developed this app in the next 24 hours I will consider Gotcha! an app that doesn't work and I for one will post this on any iphone forum I am on!

Whoa hold on there! There are usually ways to contact the developer before giving them bad publicity. There's usually a URL listed in the iTunes application description of the app, and that's usually the best way to contact the developer. Try giving the benefit of the doubt, like perhaps he went on a camping trip, or he's busy answering a string of emails and trying to figure out a particular bug that he's been made aware of, and doesn't have time to get back to all the forums he's posted on.

Anyways it benefits you as you can possibly get your software working rather than writing off for lack of patience.

Gotcha still not responding

Gokunama,

I am checking in tomorrow again and if they still haven't replied, I am not wasting my time any more with Gotcha or Level61. I rather spend my time checking out apps that work!

As you say, Level61 might be too busy to check on the forums he's been advertising Gotcha on. And if he has been doing that, then the chances are even greater that he might never come around back to MacRumors to check on his post....which means...I could be waiting for all eternity.

Level 61 Support

Hi boredtodeath,

we always answer support requests that are sent TO US!
You can find our website (level61.com, not unusually for a company that's called level61 :) on the APPLE ITUNES STORE PAGE where you bought our App Gotcha!. There is also a direct link to support and of course we publish our support email, which is support@level61.com and we reply within 48 hours, often faster.

We love making great apps that just work and rely on our customer's feedback, which implies suggestions, requests and criticism. We think that's essential for a software company and we think every feedback is really valuable.

We regret and wonder that you spent so much time posting your bad success in several forums and twitter worldwide rather than just contacing us or reading the simple instructions that come with our app.

We've received a lot of positive feedback on this app with some helpful feature requests. One feature requested was to improve the help section in our app, especially concerning the email and twitter setup. We're working on that topic and it will be available with the next update 1.2 which is actually in development.

If you've set up your iPhone properly with a passcode lock, please start Gotcha!, set up Gotcha! in a way that fits your needs and arm Gotcha!.
During the arming sequence (which is the time span you wait for the system to be armed and which is configurable from 5 to 20 secs) time has come to lock your phone with the little (hardware) sleep/lock/power switch on the top right of your phone. After that and after the (optional) arming sound silenced, your iPhone is armed and secured. According to your settings it'll trigger an audible or silent alarm, responding to the movement sensivity you set up before. If you set up email and/or twitter properly and decided to switch ON email and/or twitter alert, Gotcha! will send a notification with a google maps link to your account(s) in time intervals you set up before in the message intervals section.

Email messaging and twitter works over all networks, as there are edge, 3G and Wifi, but only if they are available. If not available, you'll find a notification about failure in your logfile. Depending on the network speed, it can take up to 15 secs for a message to be sent.

So, please, boredtodeath, you're not unsupported. If you feel uncomfortable with Gotcha! (unlike now thousands of customers) please drop us a line and we'll give you a refund.

Best wishes from Level 61.

My guess is that boredtodeath never actually bought the app. I'm betting it was pirated, which would explain why he never saw the support link on the iTunes page. I could be wrong, but thats my guess.

When I read the initial posting I got the impression that you would be back to answer people's questions/comments. This is a discussion forum not a billboard or developers blog.

I admit I never read this "apps" subforum and don't know if it is the norm for it to be used as an advertising space, but typically that kind of thing is against forum rules. It's one thing to make an announcement and then have some follow-up discussion with forum members but another thing entirely to make a post then direct customers to your support channel. Because then it's little more than free advertising.

Just my observation

Sorry

Sorry, if our post has been a bit too extensive. We just announced and intended to initiate a discussion about security on iPhone. We didn't intend to misuse this forum as a support channel, but we felt we couldn't leave this boredtodeath on his own. Because scolding like that is little more than advertising, it's defaming.

Was not our intention to break forum rules.
