Gotta love the Google Nuts

Not sure about you, but there is something about the Google nuts that remind me of Linux nuts. Everyone deeply in love with the new Droid seems to have an anti Apple hatred, whereas, everyone in love with Linux seemed to hate microsoft. It doesn't seem to matter if the grass is greener on the other side, they just want to get to the other side.

I'm not sure if it's the hardware...the shiny new gold D-pad (1980's here we come)...the ginormous chin on the phone with the Verizon billboard sized logo...or the 1980's Texas Instruments shape and color.

Maybe it's the software with it's totally non-friendly or unnavigable interface with its commodore 64 striking good looks..either way I'm not sold and feel bad for all those folks getting sold a bill of goods by media presentations and Google hardcores only to find out that after signing a long contract, they'll be embarassed to pull the phone out of its case in public when the next generation of sleek an sexy phones come out next year.

Maybe I shoud'nt be so hard on the Droid, but I can't really believe that folks would purchase that phone with so many other great options including the Droid Eris (see...I'm not anti-google).

Here's the phone I'm pretty sure inspired the Droid designers (see attachment). Gotta love the D-pad! Go Nokia!

I really don't see why people here insist on ranting and complaining about the droid. If you dont like it, then simply don't buy it. Complaining about it is stupid and pointless.

It's complete insecurity on behalf of iPhone fanboys. Whats wrong with having a phone as good or better than the iPhone?

not sure why people feel the need to add a 100 threads on the damn thing.. people that like them buy them people that don't, don't what is the purpose of another droid thread I guess it makes one feel special!
 
I hope the Droid is perceived to be better than the iPhone 3G. In fact, I hope the media, bloggers, and pundits proclaim the Droid as the iPhone backside-whipper.

I don't think that scenario is likely. But even if it comes close, even if it looks to gain market share and act like a challenge to the iPhone's hegemony, then... the next model, along about summer 2010, will be something nice.

It just so happens I skipped the 3GS, so along about sumer 2010, I'll be looking forward to a new phone. This is going to be interesting...

Like I said before it's insecurity! It's amazing how far some people here will go to justify having the "greatest and best" phone ever made. Piss on the competition because finally there's a formidable new kid on the block? Give me a break :rolleyes:

I wouldn't count on any phone to push the iPhone along. Steve Jobs is going to put out what he wants and could care less about what the other guy is doing.

The fact that he tries to discredit another product and complain about it to make his iPhone seem superior is just idiotic and shows insecurity like another user said.
By the way, the forum is about discussing iPhone's right? Not droids. :p

If you are a real iphone owner and should be if you are posting in this forum, you missed the point of the original post. As an iphone owner, this forum is about iphones and the reason we purchased one, its aesthetic appeal and easy to use operating system.

My reason for pointing out my perceived weaknesses of the Droid, is the fact that I am sharing this with other iphone owners. If you really believe that the Droid is a better phone, please by all means, start frequenting the Droid forums.

Something I have noticed about apple fanboys and hell even apple users in general is they will bash another product and say might say why an apple product is better. Let just use this post as an example as the op went off amd attack the droid and called it crap. Hell he just bash the droid and never even compared it to the iPhone

Now let's look at the other phones and take drois users. I have noticed they do not go off bashing the iPhone or other phones. Instead they go on saying why they like there phone and do not say much about another phone. Same goes for blackberry.
I am basing this off what I have observed at a andriod forum and a blackberry based forum.
Apple users and fansboys are idoits and very inseercure about themselves
 
I've met quiet a few Apple nuts in my life. They hate Microsoft just as much as the Linux nuts. What's your point?

Oh, thanks for telling us all what this forum is for. The admins and mods should thank you for defining the purpose of this discussion forum.

You just don't get it. You arrogantly bashed a phone because it's a potential threat.
Also, as iPhone users, we couldn't care less about the droid. Why? Because it's a completely different device. It doesn't pertain to the iPhone.
I can't speak for everyone here, but judging from the posts in this thread, we simply don't care about the droid and are tired of hearing about it on the iPhone forums.
Just to clarify, I don't think the droid is better than the iPhone, but it's surely not a bad phone.

Personal Computer
GUI
Mouse
Wifi
portable digital media player that people want to use
phone that doesn't need a 100 page manual
 
Hm, well, having both phones right now I'm going to have to say you are wrong on most of the points you posted about the droid... you might be right on about the looks, but then, that would purely be your personal opinion and not some well known fact.

The android 2.0 interface is ridiculously easy to navigate, completely on par with the ease of use of the iphone. I haven't had to look anything up, its all been very intuitive, so I don't know where you got that.

Anyone who has been on this forum for a length of time knows who I am. I've been here over two years, have written several guides and am definitely one of the knowledgable members when it comes to the iphone and AT&T. Therefore I think it is safe to say I harbor no "anti Apple hatred." So, why is it that I am typing this post on a droid instead of my iphone? Is it because I have been brainwashed, or because google, motorola and verizon have actually put out a phone worth my time? I'm inclined to think the latter...

Won the battle, what a freaking joke. If you go on the Android boards where they discuss iphones in every thread, it means Apple has won the battle? :rolleyes:

I wasn't saying it was a bad thing. Steve wants some pretty nice stuff and I am a firm believer in a company having a stand on what a product should be instead of trying to figure out what the customer wants. Apple is good at having an opinion on what their products should be. BMW is good at that too. Other companies do customer clinics and then misinterpret what the customer says resulting in disappointing products.

Henry Ford said something to the effect of: If I had asked the customer what he wanted he would have said a faster horse.

Steve Jobs has nothing to do with all this. I'll give you the PC. Apple is often credited with that.

GUI no. Xerox developed the first idea of a GUI which was expanded on by IBM then moved into Windows and OS/2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphical_user_interface#Evolution The fact that Apple was the first release of a real Personal Computer does not give it the innovation of popularizing GUI which was being used in many other implementations.

Mouse, you get as well, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mouse_(computing) It was even thought crazy when distributed with the Apple Macintosh.

Wifi... Got a source? I never owned or used a mac until 2006 and I had seen and used Wifi for a long while. Do tell.

Portable media player... There were a lot. The only thing Apple did was get a big slice of the pie. Had it not been for Apple and Steve Jobs there would have been just as many MP3 players but just from 10 times the manufacturers. Creative would have a decent market share as well as other brands. Just because they made the single most successful MP3 player doesn't mean they popularized it. If anything I'd credit that with Napster and the prevalence of MP3 as a music data form.

Phone that doesn't need 100 page manuals... I had many before getting the iPhone. Try again. My LG flip phone circa 1999 didn't. Also... iPhone users guide is 217 pages http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iPhone_User_Guide.pdf . I'll chalk this one up as being posed for the lulz. ;)
