Gotta vent!

I had to install windows to run two programs. That's it, but I had to do it for work.
Now that I've gotten through bootcamp's demand that I reformat and reinstall OSX, I find the real nightmare that is everyday life on a PC...Windows XP is garbage! I can't believe that people use this POS OS and like it. Seriously, how hard do you have to make it to connect to a wireless network, then still be able to connect to another one? "You're computer is at risk. Click here to find out more." and then every time you want to shut down and get the hell out of the office, windows needs to install 48 updates and don't you dare unplug your computer while it crawls along doing this for ten minutes.
I used to listen to people talk down about the Mac OS and I'd pretty much ignore it. "Whatever, I'm sure that windows is great for what you do, but I'll stick to my Mac." NO MORE! I can't cut anyone who defends windows any slack. It's an inferior virus ridden unintuitive messy ugly little bastard child of a demented engineer's failure of vision.
Thanks for allowing me to vent, now go forth and install that horrible OS because you can, and then realize how much nicer life is with Apple.

I can understand your feelings. It was certainly difficult to use Windows 95/98/2000/XP at work.

I've been using my parents' computer for a little over a week since they got dial-up access to the internet. Windows XP Home isn't so terrible. It took a long while to download the various updates but emachines/Gateway has a utility to help you make sense of it all and it's not that bad. Software Update has no real competition, though.

Strangely, using Firefox is not as easy, even though it's the same application. People say it's speedier and it's less buggy but if I were using a 1.33 GHz Sempron instead of the Sempron 3100+, I might think they were wrong. Sometimes, when starting, the Firefox window is minimal, not minimized and trying to use it at anything but full screen is maddening.

Mac OS X is the best. Now, if we could just get some new and interesting applications going for home use...

It took a long while to download the various updates but emachines/Gateway has a utility to help you make sense of it all and it's not that bad.

See that's what I'm talking about! You need to get all these other pieces just to make any sense of the puzzle pieces you have.

It's truly amazing how I'm able to put up with it every day. I'm getting a MacBook in the next few months, and then I'll seriously wonder how I ever put up with Windows in the first place.

The thing was on the internet for 1 week. Normal browsing, mapquest, medical stuff, and that's about it, checking the email etc, - it was being used by my mom.

I logged into the account that I made, "Security Center" which basically has every thing I need to maintain the system with an extremely difficult encrypted password on the account.

50 adaware and 10 viruses.

well, thats Internet Explorer, the most vulnerable browser known to man kind.
Why the hell do you think Firefox is soo popular in the windows world? its not that it LOOKS better, it actually IS safer.

Now about your rant,
i recently switched from a pc, now, i love OSX and deffinately would use this rather than windows, but i think you all are making too big of a deal, sure the "helpful" pop-up notices are annoying, but windows is not HARD to use.
it is not hard to set up a network(i dont think).
You all just get too used to the nice comfortable life over here on OSX and forget your roots (for the older people) and forget about the way computers were back in the day, when it wasnt about looks, it was about getting the job done,
i think we bash windows a little too much, it does what it does very well, its just that there are things out there that do the same job a little better

If you worked construction and you could have the choice of a hammer, a pneumatic nailer, or a rock, which do you think you would use?
Windows is a rock, not solid like one, just stupid like one.
The point I made originally was not just how bad and annoying XP is, but that why the hell would anyone prefer it over OSX?
After going through the computer equivalent of framing a house with a rock, I'll stick with the hardworking pneumatic nailer that is OSX.

I must say I laughed when I just read this. This sounds just like me, whenever I've had to use Windows. It sucks! Those annoying balloons that keep popping up, applications that constantly want to claim all of your screen, and when you want out, why the hell do you have to push "Start"??? Backwards, Windows users have just gotten used to it. And finally, trying to leave, "Windows is installing 26 updates, do not turn off your computer"... 49 minutes later, it finally turns off. Back to OS X. Ahhh.

It's not that Windows is terrible but that it's sloppy. It tries to help in the wrong places and once you're getting help, you can't seem to stop it.

As I said, this Windows experience has been relatively good and the computer has been good but I can do so much more, so much more easily with Mac OS X not helping me.

Windows deserves to be kicked down a flight of stairs every day for a year. It deserves every bruise and scrape it gets for being such a piece of junk.

I use UNIX too, and while the CLI is a pain, you can just make things happen. On a Mac, everything that you do in the CLI is there to see and work with. But, Windows is like the Bizarro version of OSX, everything's square and backwards. Setting up a network requires 4 wizards and lots of click OKs. I've set up a network and had a Mac printing wirelessly and using the internet connection in the time it takes to get Windows to join a network.

Okay, maybe that's a bit of hyperbole, but it takes so much more work to get Windows to do something, and everytime some window pops up to tell me some useless piece of information. I know I disconnected the ethernet cord, no I don't want the wizard to help me, yes those icons are on the desktop for a reason, yes I'm sure, yes I'm sure. Yes! I'm! Sure!
