Hey there!
The title says it all: Is there a way (no jailbreak) that the wifi is automatically switched on when I am around specific GPS locations (like at home and University) and switched off on the go?
Asked myself that the other day and vaguely remembered that I heard something about that...was it Android? mhhh..I think it would be a cool feature.

Not as far as I know. Just leave your Wi-Fi radio on. Then your iPhone will automatically log into your home's WiFi when you're at home and your university's WiFi when you're there.

You'll waste far more battery polling your GPS receiver than you will save by disabling WiFi. Now, other location services, on the other hand, may provide some savings.

Apple allows for "geo-fencing" for certain services like notification reminders based on location. But currently, there are no geo-fencing services for things like turning on and off WIFI. For now, you'll have to manually turn it on and off if you really particular about your battery life. I'm hoping they allow you to use Siri to turn wifi on and off to make it easier. I personally keep my wifi on all the time, but would like a feature similar to this for bluetooth. Such as when I leave my home (I'm most likely in my car) for bluetooth to turn automatically on.
