Im not trying to spam links to you guys, but I ran across this and I just kinda wonder if its possible or not. Detailed information on how to use GPS w/ very little Data. Want your opinions on it. If it was true, then you wouldnt really require a data plan to use your gps

"GPS" also works on iPod touch, using the Skyhook technology mentioned in this article. I may be wrong, but this article just seems to be stating in an elaborate way that GPS on an iPhone without a data plan works like it does on an iPod touch.
 
The app may not require you to have a data plan but if you are with AT&T they will require you to have one if you have an iPhone.

The GPS functionality does not have anything to do with the data plan. The native map application does, but if you have the maps stored on the iPhone you would not need the data at all.
