I really like this feature, especially when traveling, you can see on a map exactly where your pictures are taken. However it's a big privacy concern for me when I take photos at home. I really hate having to constantly turn location services off for pictures depending whether I'm taking pictures at home, in a private location or enable them when I'm traveling somewhere on a vacation.

With iOS 14, have they somehow made this feature smart by detecting that you're home, and whenever you take pictures it will automatically discard any GPS/Location data inside the image file that it's associated with?

It would be useful especially if you do plan to take pics at home of items that you need to sell and then upload or send those images via text message or via email to someone. I'm just worried that the person receiving those images can look at the embedded gps/location data and see exactly where you live.

In a word: No.

And why would they? You have choices: turn of GPS tracking in the camera app, or use two camera apps, or strip out the GPS info with an app such as Exif photo.

Cause that would make it inconvenient, and plus for those who takes a lot of photos that would be really inefficient to have to do that and try to remember all those steps. There should be a better implementation.

You seem to be under the impression that Apple should work your way only.

Everyone else seems to make do with this. You seem to think it's wrong.

Define Home. Who's to say home is home? Many people may have a weekday residence and a weekend one.

Many more people are just fine with the status quo.

Just because you think it's a good idea doesn't make it so.

Personally I think it's a totally awful and lousy idea fraught with complication and risk. I value my privacy as well, so I make sure I strip off the location Exif data whenever I post pictures from home to the outside world.

Simple.

Simple for you may not be simple for others, I'm looking for a better solution like I stated in my OP. Home as in a majority of middle class families. I doubt many have more than one 'home'. Many people may be fine because they're unaware of it and just because you don't think the idea isn't good, doesn't make it so either. It works both ways.

It’s easy to chose quickly if meta data is included in pictures you are sharing... it’s right there on the sharing screen.

I’d be beyond mad if they stopped tagging pictures I took at my house automatically.

It’s easy to remove location data. It’s difficult to add it back.

I use Metapho when I want to share a picture— click share, choose Metapho, click share within Metapho, choose “share without metadata”, and proceed. It’s a few extra quick steps, but I don’t share stuff that often, I guess.

Exactly my thought as well. This functionality to would be difficult to add to the satisfaction of everyone and would end up just annoying them. Hence why we stunt have it.
