iPhone 15 Pro Max on 17.0.3. A buddy of mine is experiencing the same.

GPS based apps like Maps, Waze, Find My, Home all causing the phone to heat up and chew through battery life. I understand GPS uses more battery but this is excessive. More so than any other iPhone or software version I ever experienced and I upgrade yearly.

Do you have location set to “Always” or “While Using the App”? Is using 5G Auto/On? Have you noticed which app cause more heat or battery drain? I have most apps to use location only while using the app and use Maps for over an hour but it didn’t heat up.

Thanks for the suggestions…

Location is set to “While Using” for the apps in question. 5G is set to “Auto” 5G Stand Alone is set to “Off” App refresh is on for all. These are the settings I’ve always used.

The biggest culprits I’ve noticed so far are Maps, Find My and Home, which all use location but this only happens when the app is open and being actively used. Most other apps are fine. I don’t use Waze but my buddy threw that in there because he uses it too.

There could be a possibility there are some background activity while you’re using those apps. Have you check the battery activity and see if which app (maybe a rogue app in background)?

Doesn’t look anything out of the ordinary. By that meaning nothing I haven’t seen in previous phones and software versions. I been meaning to do a little cleanup anyway. Hopefully that clears my issue. Thank again.
