Hi All,

I'd like some opinions on the following:

My iPhone 6 64GB is out of warrantee. MY GPS chip is dead. I've tried everything, it's definitely done.

I need my GPS, I use it daily from traveling for work.

Knowing that I will want an iPhone 7 in September, should I:

1. Pay the $299 out of warrantee repair

or

2. Trade in the phone to apple for a $300 credit towards the iPhone 6s

Thanks for the advice

[doublepost=1456100517][/doublepost]Why wouldn't you just use google maps GPS chip being dead would not effect its use.

Here is why If you ever fly and turn your phone on it and put on the maps it only shows your a guess with in a few hundreds miles of here you all. If you really need a GPS pick up a cheap one from a pawn shop for less then $70 then wait till Sep and get then 7

If you're sure they'll give you $300 for a faulty device, it seems like you are out about the same money. If you are getting a 16GB device you're out $50 over a repair. If 64, you're out $150. You've just upgraded your phone for $50-150 out of pocket. No brainer in my eyes. If you know you're getting a 7 and can live with 16GB, go that route. Then trade that phone towards the 7.

Agreed.

OP - Apple may be able to replace only the chip.

Thanks, but I've read on multiple other threads, particularly on Apple's boards of people with similar situation (Gps just stops working), that their only option was to get their out of warrantee swapped for a new one for $299.
