It's a lot more common than most people realize. All it takes is for a bad calibration. It's not going to affect anything or hurt anything, and it could be that the software reading is wrong.

If it is a piece of software such as iStat, I would imagine that the vendor in this case, iSlayer.com) would need to update the software to properly detect the new chipset that these models utilize (NVIDIA instead of Intel).

I am using IStat and it is actually in C so in F would be negative 197.

Dead frozen.

But my issue is that it just started yesterday and in coincided with the buzzing noise from the left fan. The noise stopped but the temperature stayed.

I know this is going to sound obvious, but have you tried shutting the computer down completely and turning it back on?

I have the same problem.

The GPU diode temperature will usually show the errant value when the computer using the 9400M GPU goes to sleep then wakes back up.

The issue is not replicable when using the 9600M graphics card.

Re-installing iStat's temperature probe module from Intel brings the temperature readings back on the 9400M GPU.

I've found just switching cards will do the trick. Temps around -125C are very common when a program is trying to read a sensor that isn't actually there (or in this case is turned off). Making the correct value appear should fix it.
