GPU failing in mac pro1,1?

Hi,
several weeks ago I flashed a 4870 sapphire card for my mother's mac pro 1.1

No issues at all, except she told me today that yesterday and a week ago the mac pro froze and she had to restart it unplugging the cable.

Before she never experienced this kind of problems on this mac.

I checked the Console messages and saw two kernel messages at two dates saying this :

Does this mean the GPU is failing or it is normal since this is a flashed card?
(tha card shows bootscreen and is fully recognized by the OS - Snow Leopard 10,6,5)

Looks like that was just a dump of the GPU information before it locked up. If it doesn't happen again, I wouldn't worry about it. Otherwise, I'd check the cooling on the GPU to make sure it's working okay.

It happened 3 times and since I put the fan speed to 900 by default via macfans control, I did not happen again...
I thought also this could be the temp. The gpu fan is working normally though.

Hmmm...which fan speed did this change? It sounds like a component may be failing or some thermal device like a heatsink, thermal paste, etc. isn't working correctly. I'd research this so you at least know the root cause. It could be a failure waiting to happen and just masked for now.

No, no.
I changed on purpose the rpm of the mac pro fans to 900.
And the problem is gone.
But may be the Gpu needs replacement of the thermal paste if its fan is not enough...

Oh I know, but you didn't say which fan this sped up--GPU, power supply, etc.

GPU might need replacement, or you could just revamp with better paste and fan setup on the GPU for some extended life.
