Im upgrading to a RX 580 on a mid 2012 mac pro and was wondering if the cable in the picture attached is what i need ? . I think this a 6 to 8 pin cable . Thanks in advance.

No, wrong cable. You need a dual "mini" six pin to 8 pin:
