Hello,

I've installed the Accelero X2 on my x1900xt, and with all the messing around, I just don't trust myself that I've done it right. It's probably because almost every game I've tried on the Mac has a good deal of screen tearing 0 but that's probably because of the 1920x1200 resolution and non-optimised games.

On Bootcamp, I've used ATI tool, and that's telling me that things are stable over the stock x1900 frequencies, and the two temperature readings seem to max out at 80 and 70 degC. But can I be sure that that means everything is working allright from a hardware point of view?

Thanks for any help,

David

Just stress the videocards, try playing a very demanding game at the highest settings for a long period of time, if you have nothing to play, run lots of timedemos at the highest settings for everything, run 3DMark a lot, etc really make your X1900XT cry.

Now if during these tests you get constant lockups or more likely constant artifacting and graphical corruption then something is wrong, check temps, remember, unless you are hitting 120C, don't worry, if you are under 100C and all your games play normal and stable you are fine.

Seriously, the only way to know is by stressing the card with games or something similar, remember stability is seen through graphics performance and lockups and NOT temperatures (unless of course you are running at 100-120), if the picture you get is clean without any graphical anomalies (tearing is not one of them) for long periods of time then your card is fine no matter how much it heats up (though if it gets too hot it might be that the Accelero was not installed correctly).

OK, thanks for the review - it all seems to be fine, as 3Dmark06 doesn't force the temp that far above 70degC. However, I'm still getting a great deal of screen tearing - even in old games like quake 3, with sync on. Any ideas?

vsync should do the trick but otherwise try limiting the FPS to 60FPS, I know many games have console commands for this, Doom3 based games being one of them and the Doom3 engine is directly based on the old Quake engine so... look around for a fps limit command.

OK, I have seen some minor artefacts in FarCry after playing for a little while - but it's still completely stable and its only like a sign in the distance not showing properly all the time when zooming in with the binoculars - Should I be worried? Because obviously the temperatures reported are core and environmental, not the mem chips themselves. Any way I can specifically check that the mem isn't overheating?
