Hello,

Would I see any benefit from using a 2GB GPU instead of a 1GB GPU outside of games?

Thanks

Loa

That depends of :
- the gpu itself
- the resolution of the screen
- the games you plan to play
- ...

Edit: just noticed you asked outside of games....
Again, that depends of the gpu and what you will used it for, but it is hard to find, outside of games, utilisations of more than 1 gb would be usefull : the core will be probably limiting before the memory

The main advantage of having 1GB> RAM outside of games is multi-monitor setups. The 6990(4GB) has six monitor outputs "out of the box", for example IIRC.

Otherwise, at the moment, you're more likely to be bottlenecked by your GPU itself and not the amount of RAM.

Hello,

Planned GPU: 6870, flashed EFI with the help of Netkas' method.

I'm a very light gamer, so any 6870 will be plenty for my needs. But I also do a lot of Photoshop work and use various other imaging apps.

Are GPUs even useful for imaging (not rendering) apps?

Thanks
