Grainy display on SR MBP

I am wondering if anyone has noticed grain on their SR MBP. I have a 15" Matte screen (my third), and while the discoloration is gone, I have noticed quite a bit of grain. The display is not smooth at all, and it is quite a disappointment for what I thought was a step above the pre-SR MBP screens.

Is it just me? Is anyone else seeing any grain? Is this within spec?

Are you sure that it is still the led model? Just had to ask because of all the problems with the screens. Maybe they gave up and went back to the old screens. And before anyone yells at me, I really only kidding.

Wow! My MBP matte display is one of the least grainy LCDs I've seen. I think it's very smooth. What does your coating look like with the display turned off? Mine is sorta semi-glossy. Do you have the LG or Samsung panel?

just a thought, but how close are you looking at the screen? The screen does look grainy, but only when I look at it SUPER close.
Otherwise it looks perfect.

I don't know what you're getting at. It looks like any matte screen would. I can see a blurred reflection of me.

I notice the grain from about two feet away, and it becomes very apparent at 1 and a half. It's like a uniform sheet of very light grey speckles above my screen, all very close together. I can't imagine this being normal. There is nothing smooth about it.

I had a Dell laptop bought two years ago with more crisp, more even colors. The grainy display here has made it very hard to get even colors out of my screen. Especially whites. Maybe I'm extra picky because of the price I paid, but I don't think so.

I think you got a bad one, then. Mine looks nothing like that. Were you able to determine if you got a Samsung or a an LG? Mine is an LG.

In the past, I've seen matte displays where they got carried away with the anti-glare coating. Some people never notice it but I consider it a manufacturing defect.

I can't decide whether I should take it to an Apple Store. I have a feeling it may be the result of too much anti-glare coating. Besides the yellow tint problem, I've heard amazing things about the screen, and mine isn't looking so good. If it is a bad one, that'll be my third, and I'll be going back to PC.

That's a shame. I think I know what you're talking about, though. I've seen plenty of LCDs with those hazy speckles. As a matter of fact, a friend of mine recently bought a Lenovo that looks like someone applied a thin coat of Vaseline to the entire display. He's completely oblivious to the problem and thinks it looks fine. Of course, he also prefers Windows, so there's no accounting for taste!

In any case, I definitely understand your frustration with this problem. Something is wrong when it takes 3+ tries to get a good screen. It took me three tries as well. My first was a Samsung glossy that went totally dark after two weeks. The second was an LG matte that had noticeably dim left side. My third is an LG matte that is perfect. I've been grateful that none of the three MBPs had any other defects besides the two bum displays, but this is clearly an issue Apple needs to get a handle on. Someone needs to apply pressure to the OEMs (Samsung and LG in this case) to do a better job.
