Graphic Card Help Plz

i own a MacPro 2 x 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Model Identifier: MacPro 2,1
so it should be 2006 version right?
Graphic card come with is ATI Radeon X1900 XT

but i belive that card's fan are making some sound, so i was thinking
upgrade to nVdia GeForce but i have no idea which one should i get
to work with snow leopard and bootcamp windows xp or latest......

if you have link that will be great or full information

IIRC Mac versions of newer NVidia GPUs don't work in your Mac Pro because they require 64-bit EFI. Your best bet is to buy ATI 5770 or 5870 as they work in all Mac Pros.

There is a special GeForce 8800 out there that will work in your Mac Pro, but the 5770/5870 is the simplest path, as the 8800 has long been out of production.

My 2006 was a MP1,1. Your 2,1 would be a 2007. My 4,1 is a 2009 even though I bought it in mid-2010.

Why can't Apple simply refer to the model designation they report as the very first line of your system information instead of the 'year' as the year is nearly useless and never reported in the system info? They try so hard to make the rest of the system "user friendly" and then get obtuse when you have to identify what you have. (Sorry for the rant, but it really is annoying when trying to buy upgrade parts)

It's not that hard to convert back and forth...

The system is from when there was more than one model of Power Mac. A "Power Mac (1996)" would be a pretty useless title in since there were at least 5 entirely different models of Power Mac that year. The naming convention is continued mostly for compatibility.
