My wife has a late 2011 17-inch MBP running mountain lion. I just upgraded her to a 500GB SSD, and 16 GB of ram, which has been a huge improvement. She runs Adobe CS6 and Creative Cloud and currently mountain lion seems stable. What are the upsides and downsides of Yosemite for a graphic designer? Recommendations?

I think you can upgrade her laptop to Yosemite OS X and I have no problem with Adobe Photoshop CS6 and CS5.5 except Premiere Pro 5.5 requires old Java SE I do not want to install old Java SE anyway. :apple:

Do u know how many issues Yosemite has right now ? If mountain lion is stable and working , why upgrade ? Unless u want to try the new features but those probably have problems also

Graphic Designers: should I upgrade my wife to Yosemite?

Idk if it applies to ML, but I know security updates are a concern for Lion. Might be the same for ML. If you can get your hands on a copy, maybe update to Mavericks.

I'm thinking of upgrading to Yosemite - What are the some of the issues I should consider before going ahead?

Every machine is different. My late 2011 MBP runs fine on 10.10.3. Haven't had any real issues that hinder my performance. Best thing would be to clone your current HD to an external drive and update to Yosemite to try it out. If you don't like it, just wipe your HD and restore the clone you made earlier.

no, looks fuzzy on yosemite on non-retina, kind of annoying for a designer.

This is a very valid point.

OP: don’t you have a spare external drive that you could use? You can just download Yosemite, install it on an external drive and see whether she likes it on a first impression. I tend to do the same these days. :)

my safari isn't working properly, random freezes , beach ball , history is gone . iMessages stopped syncing with my phone , can't see any of messages when I open up imessage on Yosemite . Overall sluggish performance but I guess that depends on computer . These are just my issues though ..
