Graphics card cables

Hi

So I am replacing my GTX 285 with a GTX 980Ti 6gb ( Mac Pro 3/1 ) And I have no idea if it's a stupid question or not, but seeing as they are both EVGA cards are the 285 cables compatible with the 980? Or seeing how old the 285 now is has the technology moved on significantly and I need to buy new ones?

The same cables will work if your GTX980Ti has two 6 pin power connectors.

If your GTX980Ti has an 8 pin power connector, you will need a 6 pin to 8 pin power cable. The 6 pin to 6 pin will still work.

When purchasing, be sure to get power cables meant for Mac Pros or Power Mac G5s.

If you have a 980 Ti or Ti overclocked GPU with either one or two 8-pin power connectors, you can get inexpensive 6-pin-to-8-pin adapter cables from various sources. Some companies even make Mac Pro compatible 6-pin-to-8-pin cables that replace the factory cables and plug directly in the Mac Pro's motherboard.

Basically <this adapter> if you want to use your existing cable(s).
Or <this cable> if you want to swap out the cable(s) to the motherboard.
