I suspected as much. PS filters seem intuitively to be more processor- oriented tasks.

Oh... and what about generally "snapiness" of redrawing 1920x1200 pixel desktops? I ask because I have the option of picking up a brand new 7800gt if it'l'l make a difference here =)

Maybe. FCP 4.5 and 5 off load more work to the GPU so a better gfx card could improve performance in some areas (real time performance).

PS - no, vid - it depends on the app. If it is FCP/E or Motion, it does. Motion is generally vid.card intensive app (I checked Activity Monitor while Motion was playing some comlex projects and cpu was not 100% used, though video in Motion droped to 15ns FPS. I guess that the video card is working at 100% though)

Yep Motion really likes a very fast GPU (X800 XT, X850 XT, 6800 Ultra) and load of ram as it loads more to those assets than the CPU. :D

Magic Bullet Editors 2 takes advantage of the GPU for rendering.

I'm only really here at night.

Yes, since OS X's eye candy & GUI are using the GPU more & more, just like the core/pro video apps are.

But for PS alone, notta
since it is strictly a 2D app! But more ram WILL help it alot though....

What about speed of redrawing desktops on XP? I need to justify a 7800! (To mollify the pangs of an empty bank account after Christmas.) :)

On Windows XP? Nope. But then again, the windows UI is already blazing fast, I can't imagine it being any more responsive than it already is.
