Does anyone think that its strange that macs now have intel processors, but the graphics card in a lot of apples configurations are ATI, which is owned by amd? any thoughts on this?? just curious, seems kinda strange to me considering how proprietery macs are....

IMO, although Intel have a lot of good products, i want to see as much AMD hardware around as possible. Competition is the invisible hand of the market, after all.
And to answer your question, well i don't think Apple really care. They aren't Intel, remember. They just collate the hardware they think is best for their machines.

it just seems kind of strange considering how much apple is throwing itself in with intel.....
Why would Apple effectively sell themselves to one company? 
Besides, it would not surprise me one bit if Apple had at least considered doing a second secret port of OS X- this time to AMD- just in case.
Intel don't own Apple, and they're glad enough to have the custom of the world's best computer manufacturer, let alone have their shoes kissed by them.

Considering AMD is X86 like Intel wouldn't OSX run on a AMD chip anyway if Apple allowed it to?
AMD and Intel processors are the same in that they run the x86 instruction set. Everything's been running in this way for years, so it was pretty bizarre of Apple to go to PowerPC in the first place really in hindsight.
Apple could switch the logic boards and put AMD processors into Macs tomorrow (in theory).

Apple has spread itself pretty evenly between the gpu makers. If you check they have I(ntegrated from Intel,Gpu's by AMd and also Nvidia about 33% for each manufactor.
Amd processors easily run OSX, as I've seen it done
I do think Ati was the right choice however, as their cards are capable of HDR and AA at the same time, whereas Nvidia is not, and gaming is important as it is keeping alot of people from switching.

Steve Jobs is more likely to keep pushing Intel far harder than anyone else in the industry for changes.
And more likely to call up and yell at them, or piss on their shoes instead of kiss them.

Indeed... and seeing how Apple has gotten the new latest/greatest proc even before other OEM's like Dell have (ie the new Xeon for the PRO's and the 2.8ghz C2D extreme in the iMacs), they are aparently doing something right.
I ran Nvidia cards in my gaming PC's mostly.. just had better luck with their drivers and they typically always had the fastest at any given time. The few ATI cards I had were less than stable. But then some people have bad luck with nVidia so who knows. The fact remains that even today with so many hardware manufactures making boards, the likelyhood of having a quirky issue with a PC is far higher than a Mac. Apple controls the hardware and the OS. Not saying they are perfect and they certainly have issues from time to time with any given machine, but in general their idea behind controlling the hardware is valid from a stability and compatability standpoint.
