Hi

I am in the process of upgrading my Mid 2012 MacPro 5.1 from its original spec of 12 core 2.4Ghz Xeon with a 1TB Radeon HD5770 to 96Gb ram and 12 core 3.46Ghz Xeon. I run a dual boot operating system (Yosemite for my day to day work and High Sierra for HD video editing) and am not looking to move past these atm.
I am looking for suggestions for a better but inexpensive graphics card. I know I can move to the Radeon HD5870 but would like to know if there is anything a little faster I could get. I need something compatible that is simply plug in and use - I dont want want to try flashing anything. I use computers but am not in any way techie to start fiddling with software.

Any suggestions welcome
Thanks

Yosemite support seriously limits limits you to just HD7950/R9 280/R9 280X and GTX 680. There are Mac Editions of these cards, Sapphire HD 7950 Mac Edition and eVGA GTX 680 Mac Edition, or you can buy it already flashed.

Btw, these are not inexpensive cards…

Hi Tsialex
I appreciate the quick and positive reply. That really helps my thought process and direction :) I must admit I didnt realise that Yosemite also had limitations. Many thanks

macOS driver support for “modern” GPUs start with Sierra, with AMD RX 4xx and 5xx series initial support.

If you have to use Yosemite, you are limited to the cards that I wrote in the previous post.
