graphics card questions ( HD 5770 or GTX285)

I have been asking questions about monitors for my new (to me) mac pro. Since I plan to run final cut pro among other things,and my new rig came with an un supported card, I obviously need a graphics card upgrade. With price being a major factor, I have narrowed my choices down to the HD 5770 or the GTX 285. I have found some reasonable deals on these two cards, and if I make sure I buy the correct version, they are officially supported out of the box.
My questions is if you are confined to one of these two choices which one would you choose and why?

GTX 285 has 512bit memory bus and it is faster, but it uses two times the power of 5770 and it is hotter. Both have 1GB of VRAM.

If you are gamer - GTX, everything else 5770.

Hi rdsii64. I am using both the Nvidia GTX285 and the Radeon 5770HD. Utilized both cards on my 3.1 08 Mac Pro, 4.1 and 5.1 2010 Mac Pros and both brands worked fine on all models. Personally I am leaning more on Nvidia. To clarify, I'm not indicating Radeon is a not too good a card. This is just my personal preference because I like the 2 DVi ports in Nvidia so I could easily hook up 2 Apple Cinema Displays. The mini-display port in Radeon only gives a maximum of 1280x800 resolution. This is acknowledged and confirmed by Apple. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3571

You'll need to buy the $99 DVi to display port adaptor to get the max native resolution.

Back in the PowerMac days Nvidia displays a warmer skin tone in people which is great for my photo edit design work .I don't play games so I could not comment on both cards. I also don't have any overheating problems on both Nvidia and Radeon. My friend told me the Nvidia GTX285 uses lesser power but unconfirmed.

With my 5870 a got 3 x 1920x1200 with just one active Mini DP to DVI adapter.
Even ATI HD2600XT has two dual link DVIs.

You can use Dual Link DVI on 5770, but because you are using dual link on one DVI, you must use Mini DP to Dual Link DVI adapters on remaining Mini Display Ports.

if you depend on CUDA and you play Games a lot then better choice is GTX.
