Hey guys, I just got a old floor model 24" iMac at our campus store, and I was curious if there are any GPU upgrades available.

The reason I ask is I heard Apple used some sort of MXM PCI slot that allowed for easy upgrade of the graphics cards, but I haven't heard any reports of anyone actually trying it / getting it to work. I searched the forums too, but didn't come across anything.

In short, is it possible to upgrade the graphics card? I've got the 7300 GT, the stock card on the 24". :)

In theory it's very much possible, but so far no-one has managed to do it as far as I know. I read an article about it a few months ago and the author tried several different cards and none of them worked.

I think the reason why they used MXM was to make the CTO process easier.

Make friends with an Apple Authorized Service Provider who will order you a "replacement" 7600GT.
