Graphics Cards for 5,1: Nvidia or AMD?

I'm looking for a graphics card that can outperform my stock Radeon 5770 and I'm unsure if I should go for an Nvidia card such as the GTX 1050 Ti or AMD RX 560.

I'm going to be dual booting into Windows 10 and macOS Sierra 10.12.6 and playing primarily Rocket League.

I've seen some benchmarks of Rocket League running on both the GTX 1050 ti and RX 560, and they both get above 60fps at 1440p, so I think I'd be all set with either one of those, but is there anything I should know about either card... compatibility issues with macOS Sierra?

As I understand, the AMD cards work out of the box with 10.12.6, but the Nvidia cards need the web driver installed.

Any crucial advice would be greatly appreciated. It's been years since I've dealt with graphics cards.

Currently on my Radeon 5770, I get 60fps at 1080p in most maps, but I have to have a lot of the effects off, and there's a few maps that make my frame rate really dip and on those I have to turn the settings down to just the bare minimum. I'm hoping that with a newer generation card, I can be above 60fps on all maps at 1440p and still have most or all of the eye candy turned on.

If both cards are good enough for your needs, IMO, better go for AMD.

1) OOTB support in macOS make your life easier on every single OS update
2) Have the ability to use recovery partition
3) Have to ability to use safe mode

I would highly recommend you go with AMD, even though they aren't necessarily as fast or power efficient for the cost.

Currently with an Nvidia, there's a lot of work on the MacOS side that has to be preformed every time MacOS get an update or a security fix.

If you were interested in getting a higher end 2013 card instead of a mid range 2016, you could also look into getting a 7970 or a 280x, which can be flashed to have increased compatibility with the Mac Pro, so you can keep your boot screens.

I agree. If can go for RX560, pick a used 7950 or 7970 make more sense. A reference 7950's ROM can easily be flash to make it a Mac graphic card. Stronger than the RX560 in most case. Much better support in MacOS. And no power issue (7970 may be a bit tricky to power it properly).
