Whatever happened to people who tried to run high power consumption graphics cards or multiple GPUs without external power? I want to make a list of reports from people who have either ran them for a long time without problem, people who did damage their equipment and people who only experienced shut downs.

Take for example the following reviewer who is running two cards off a splitter. The Radeon 5870 requires 188w while the GeForce GTX 285 requires 205w. Any reports if he carried on successfully?

Please try to avoid arguments about what is and isn't possible. Those debates have been done to death. Let's just gather data in a scientific manner now that enough time has past to adequately make a metadata analysis.

I have two cards in my system but I made sure they are well within specs of my PSU. I wanted two nvidia cards for Cuda and replaced my original 5770 with Nvidia 4000 quadro and Nvidia fX4800 cards that didn't need splitters for hookup nor it goes over the voltage limit intended for each PCI slot.

That's 142w + 150w with one power plug on each. Cool.
