Graphics Hickup

Hi

I played around with Candybar v2.6.1 when suddenly Finder looked like this (enclosed pict.)

I verified disk permissions, deleted CandyBar -no improvement!

I´ve formatted and re-installed Tiger. The enclosed screen-dump is taken upon re-installation and appropriate software updates.

Hope any of guys have an idea of what´s gone wrong.

I haven’t had any problems with CandyBar. Uninstalling CandyBar and Pixadex will do nothing, as they do not need to be active to do their changes to the OS.

A reinstall of the OS should of worked, unless you used the Archive and Install feature. This kind of OS doesn’t nuke your preferences.

Using CandyBar (make sure you have the latest update) I would reset the System back to it's defaults. CandyBar is relatively non-invasive. It doesn’t really alter the system. It primarily does two neat things. It quickly changes a group of base system icons. It also can change the system bezels, which with out an app like CandyBar, require a bit of terminal work.

Normally all CandyBar requires is a restart of the Finder and the Doc, perhaps a rest of the system.

It could be that the theme you intended to install, contained non-compliant icons.

Are you running any other system modifiers? Something that remains resident in the os, like Konfabulator? What does your system load at boot? Perhaps you should remove these items and see what happens. You might wan’t to post what version of OS X your running (including the last update) and what version of CandyBar you ran.

If you purchased CandyBar, I would also contact their customer support. If you came across CandyBar in another way, perhaps the file was damaged and somehow did a courted the icon sets as it changed them.

This was my first time with Candybar or such...
I changed a couple of icons via drag´n´drop, hit "apply" and BAM!

I formatted my os x drive and re-installed a fresh Tiger (no archiveing)
But even upon booting from the Tiger DVD some graphics was distorted, I carried on however.
So my new Tiger on my "clean" drive is still messed up.

After having my machine shut down for a day -I had no graphic distortion when re-booting. 3 hours after booting the graphic distortion suddenly came back.

Also when using greyscale instead of millons of colors I find no distortion. However "thousands of colors" (opposed to millions) is so much more fu**ed up than millions of colors... Confused!

I don't think your haveing the same problem, perhaps it is drivers.
It may actualy be a hardware issue, if after 3 hours it just suddenly comes back. Perhaps the error only shows up after a threashold temperature is hit. Perhaps AppleCare? A hardware issue would also show up if it happend under greater stresss, i.e heavyer graphics load. This is my only thought.

As a last ditch effort:
I would get a program like MainMenu and do a few things. There is no garontee that it will help, but the tool is a good one for system maintenance. I would deep clean the System cache, reboot, and then run the batch processes, and reboot again. It can't hurt.
