Should I upgrade the graphics card?

The graphics card is likely more important than dumping money on ram to start. Go for the 390. Also 2tb fusion minimum.

For music production, even the M380 will probably be sufficient (though that is not available with the i7). So either a M390 or M395 will be more than good enough for the internal + an extra 1080p screen.

Im working With logic pro x and an imac 27" 5k ; i5 (3.3ghz) With the 2 TB Fusion Drive. It depends on how you work With the daw? How meny tracks Do you use per project? But its true... get the Best computer/iMac With your Budget if you want to have fun With it for meny years

I like the M395 flavor because for that upgrade you get the 2TB Fusion drive along with the improved GPU

An SSD of some sort is more important than anything else on upgrades - minimum of 2tb fusion if it was me. Ram can be user upgraded for half the price. You don't need the GPU upgrade unless planning on changing your usage.

Hi, I am looking at getting a new iMac for music editing. I have settled on the 5K 27 inch with the maxed out (4Ghz), and 32 GB RAM. Do I need the upgraded graphics card to run the 5K monitor and a 1080p second monitor. Mainly used for Logic and music production.

Unless I mis-read Apple's web site, your only GPU options for the machine you have decided on are 2GB M395 or 4GB M395X.

The M395 is pretty good; I don't see why you'd need the M395X for your usage case.

As already stated you could get 8GB RAM, upgrade it yourself and this would pay for the M395X with money left over.
