How does $1000 for the base model minus 10% equal $750?

10% off open items does not equal to 10% off the list price of a new machine. Only means they're further reducing open items to shift them quickly.
The warranty period would have to be verified with Apple, but usually it starts from the date of purchase. Whether it's the first owner's purchase or yours, is a question for Best Buy and Apple. I suspect if you turned up at a Genius bar with your receipt from Best Buy, they'd honour that date?
Regardless, you can still get AppleCare and extend it to three years. Either way, it's a great deal. I suspect they're shifting these quickly before the new Airs arrive.
