Alright so I downloaded frostwire based off some of the comments on these forums and it was working perfectly until recently. For one it sometimes refuses to quit (unless I forcequit) then when I try to reopen it I get some error message (-600) and my computer has to be restarted to open up the program. It's also strange that it starts off at downloading speeds of 50-100+ kbps, then goes down to 1-8 kbps with 8+ hosts. It seems the longer frostwire stays open the slower it gets. If that's not enough my internet is shockingly slow while the app is open.

I'm not sure as to why it's been acting up recently unless ive somehow downloaded something that has corrupted the system. But this is my first mac and i have no clue as to what I should do to fix problems. Help would be greatly appreciated.

As a first step I would try repairing disk permissions, if you haven't done this already. Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. This might help with your error messages but I'm not sure that it will do anything for your download speeds.

As Frostwire is an open-source project it is bound to be a bit buggy from time to time. Why don't you report the problems that you're having to the developer community and they will most likely help you do something about it. The P2P client that I use is Acquisition (http://www.acquisitionp2p.com/ and I really like it, hassle free and designed for mac. You do have to pay a little for it, but it's worth it.
