A sportswriter on ABC was mentioning that Steph Curry is the greatest player of any sport in the Bay Area of any time period.
Really?
Reggie Jackson, Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Steve Young, Tim Lincecum, Madison Bumgarner, and Bruce Bochy included?
I find it hard to compare different sports from different periods, but there's always an obsession when it comes to legends. Had Michael Jordan played for the Warriors or Sacramento Kings and put up similar numbers (career PPG), championships or no championships, one could easily say he would be the best sportsperson ever for Northern California. But is it premature to consider a man in the middle of his career like Steph Curry with the greats?
Nobody touches Curry today and the only records he is chasing are his own where he has 4 out of the top 6 three point records per season already owning top 3 spots, and has fundamentally changed the way basketball is played in a way the dunk did the same thing in the days of old. And remember he did this from a team that nobody considered a real threat to anybody a few short years ago.
But Rice, Young, and Bumgarner are or were in that same position of having to only best themselves. Rice had most receptions which he kept adding to, Young had highest QB rating with nobody in sight then or before, and Bumgarner still has good ERA on top of starting three separate World Series with wins in each contest.
