A sportswriter on ABC was mentioning that Steph Curry is the greatest player of any sport in the Bay Area of any time period.

Really?

Reggie Jackson, Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Steve Young, Tim Lincecum, Madison Bumgarner, and Bruce Bochy included?

I find it hard to compare different sports from different periods, but there's always an obsession when it comes to legends. Had Michael Jordan played for the Warriors or Sacramento Kings and put up similar numbers (career PPG), championships or no championships, one could easily say he would be the best sportsperson ever for Northern California. But is it premature to consider a man in the middle of his career like Steph Curry with the greats?

Nobody touches Curry today and the only records he is chasing are his own where he has 4 out of the top 6 three point records per season already owning top 3 spots, and has fundamentally changed the way basketball is played in a way the dunk did the same thing in the days of old. And remember he did this from a team that nobody considered a real threat to anybody a few short years ago.

But Rice, Young, and Bumgarner are or were in that same position of having to only best themselves. Rice had most receptions which he kept adding to, Young had highest QB rating with nobody in sight then or before, and Bumgarner still has good ERA on top of starting three separate World Series with wins in each contest.

Hahahaha... this made me chuckle. Just a little! :D

I agonized over that one, and that's why I mentioned Reggie Jackson as pre-doping HR hitter. There's the steroids issues with Bonds but again even with that, who can hit with such hand/eye coordination? He connects like nobody's business. If a pitcher tossed a close one and it was a ball, and Barry didn't want to hit, then he never flinched. He had the most amazing eye.

Willie Mays, yes to him also. I thought of Randy Johnson because he was a thrill to have and he was a mentor to up and coming great pitchers, but he did his best work before the SF Giants and I wouldn't be surprised if people consider him the best pitcher of all time with MVP of WS and freakin' five Cy Youngs.

Haha as a Niners fan that hurts, but also makes me laugh! Everyone knew it was going to be bad besides management..........but you knew you were in for something "special" when on the 1st game of the year, on national tv cameras catch the head coach putting in a big dip on the sideline.

I would have to say Jerry Rice. Like others it was tough to pick between Montana and Rice, but my reasoning is this.............a lot of people argue who is the best QB of all time between say Montana, Brady, Marino, etc............there is no real discussion on who the best WR is..........its Jerry Rice.

Between Rice and Montana I always think of Rice.

Montana and Manning are probably the best overall and there are arguments for both. But Jerry Rice caught for both legends Montana (best postseason QB at retirement) and Young (best regular season QB rating at retirement) and did well with both. Rice also went to Super Bowl later on with Raiders. Add that to his numbers and nothing is close to Jerry Rice in Northern California.

We would have to have a Wayne Gretzky on the Sharks for years, or a Michael Jordan on the Warriors or Kings for years to come up with a name in any other sport comparable to our Jerry Rice. That being said, in his middle years, Steph Curry is already at a point where he's breaking his own records and by the time his career finishes, he will have totally rewritten what it is to be a basketball star here.

I enjoy watching Curry play, he brings a whole new level to the game.

You can never count him out. There is definitely a whole new level.

The game is going at a certain pace, towards the all time NBA record and for the chance to put the Spurs to #2 for entire season, and it seems like when the Warriors need an exclamation point, Curry comes in as if he just started the game and scores 15 in the third quarter.

The other players look lethargic by comparison. The guy is at his best all four quarters and along with his records there's no doubt he's the best NBA player, and not just the best in all of California at the moment. He's more in the news around my parts more than anybody else in any sport. It's as if we are seeing our own local version of MJ. He's so popular I am sick of the #30 jersey. LOL.

Hitting 400 3 pointers in one season, when even 300 has never been done, or getting very close has to factor into his overall greatness as best Bay Area sports personality of all time. I still think it's Jerry Rice if you ask the average person just walking around, but Steph keeps on packing it on.
