Greek fonts on Fireworks

hi there,
i understand this does not affect most of you, but if anyone can help, it'd be greatly appreciated.
fireworks won't let me type greek in it.
dreamweaver lets me just fine, so it's kind of puzzling.
i have downloaded greek fonts and put the in the right folder,
but when i select any of them in fireworks and try to type, i get something
looking like this [] for each letter.
so i type what i need in pages, Grab it and open the image in fireworks and
place it where i need, which really slows me down, especially if i don't get the font or size right and i have to do it all over again a few times.
ideas anyone?

Check the Adobe support pages for Fireworks and Unicode, there are many problems listed in both the Mac and Windows versions of the product.

The listed issues mostly seem to revolve around the MX 2004 release, is that what you use?

no, i'm using fireworks 8, so there shouldn't be such problems...
i have checked the support pages in the past and found nothing, will do so
again...
i have installed various fonts that work on other applications (and other adobe apps) but not on fireworks...

but it seems to be for windows only and i'm having a hard time finding this preferences.txt file.
