Hi folks ! Just a short story, maybe you are interested ?

I´m a German guy, won an iPod Touch 5G black on Ebay on 04/20 for about 130€.

When I turned the iPod on it showed very visible, disgusting mint-green borders on screen:

Also there was a dent on right top of the casing:

Here in Germany there is a special guarantee offered up to two years if the fault was caused by the manufacturer. But after 6 months the buyer has to supply evidence. This iPod was bought in 12/2012. Apple said: Supply evidence ! Or we don´t care. The seller said the same. So I brought the iPod to a re-seller and the re-seller sent it to a workshop. The workshop saw the problem, it was reported and claimed by a "European Consumer Law Claim Form":

Apples answer was: Nope. The dent would be a clue against the suspicion the green borders made an appearance after the product was shipped. Whatever that means. (guess it´s a mistake ?) The document is in German, though:

My opinion:
The green borders are caused by Apple due to some unknown flaw. How could anyone create such green borders on screen ? By what type of accident ? What can you do to create them ? Hit ? Water ? Nope. Then: My iPhone 5S was changed some weeks ago. Guess why .... Yes ! Exactly: Green borders. Look at the attachment:

https://forums.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=475815&stc=1&d=1402337003

I asseverate: Those borders were not caused by me at all. They came up very slowly within months. I take care of my Apple products a lot, believe it.

And: Search for that with Google. You will find others reporting the same problem.

So what do you think ? Am I right or wrong ? Same experiences here anyone else ? Any explanation ? Thanks !

Did you buy this second hand on eBay? If so your issue is with the seller not the manufacturer surely? How can you know what sort of abuse it suffered before you took ownership (you mentioned a dent).

You bought it off ebay, im guessing it was used. The issues could have been cause by the previous user and therfore not a manufacturer defect. There is no evidence that this was a defect from a manufacturer, they have no responsibility to replace it.

It is absolutely impossible for anyone of us to create such green borders. This is an evidence from my point of view. If you disagree, please let me know how you can do this.

Besides, the question for me is not the evidence. The question is: Has Apple caused that flaw or not ? In terms of law, yes, I have to offer some evidence. But this is not about the law. It´s about justice from the real point of view.

Please let me know how to create such a flaw. I will try to do so with my iPhone / iPod. I´m curious.

The iPod was dropped, the case was dented, the screen was shattered, and the replacement display might be third-party.

It is the sellers fault because they didn't communicate to you that there was a dent. However, you should have complained about it then and there when you first got it.

Dear Jessica ! You really surprise me. In fact this is an explanation. Might have happened in theory. Seems highly improbable to me. But. You´re right. Period.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but I recently discovered this problem on my iPhone 5. Just noting that I have had it replaced in store under the 6 Year UK Consumer protection law.
