My brand new (replacement) iMac is plugged in but not set up yet, i.e. it hasn't been turned on yet. A soft green glow is coming out of the right side speaker grille - from under the housing. The glow reflects off the table surface and/or the keyboard's number pad when the KB is stowed under the screen. When I look through the speaker grill into the iMac's innards, I can see a green LED (?).

Does this sound normal? I don't remember seeing this on the first unit, although I wasn't specifically looking for it at the time.

Thanks.

yep, it is a light on the mother board. i've seen it from time to time on mine as well. rarely though.

yeah something similar happened to me too! I woke up and looked at my iMac and a white light was coming out of the right speaker grill.

If you don't know it's supposed to be there, it's kind of unsettling. My first iMac was crooked out of the box, so I'm kind of on the lookout for strange 'defects' now.

This was actually on the simpsons!

One of the characters asked someone in the "mapple" store why a computer was glowing and he told them it confirms the computer is off.

I can't believe it's real but I imagine, it's something like a power indicator on the PRAM battery something along those lines.

Calling all Mac Mini users - LED light question

I have a similar experience with a Mini. I had started a thread on this but thought it might be worth adding to this thread.

A quick question for all Mac Mini users. I just noticed that when my Mini is off, but still plugged into a live mains supply that a faint green LED light glows out of the front right bottom corner. What I mean is that the glow comes from underneath the machine (I am not simply referring to the white light that can be seen at the front when the Mini is on). Could some other Mac Mini users check and let me know if others do the same? Does anyone NOT have this happening?

Best to check in a dark room, or by lifting your Mini slightly and looking at the front right bottom corner (underneath).
