So I've been attending a lot of courses and meetings on Zoom and Id like to have an alternative background.
However I have been able to do this because I need a green screen to make a background work. I have no idea how to get a green screen. Any advice?

Amazon is full of "kits" that contain a frame and a green cloth background... you could also build a frame out of wood, PVC or metal pipe and stretch green fabric across it.

But with that said, the keying function in the Zoom client is pretty bad, so no matter what you do, do not expect great results. The process is only as good as it's weakest part.

Here are a couple of shots of a kit we got from Amazon for our "green room"... we do videos and promos for our church, and shoot many of them in this room using this green screen.

I don't use a green screen with my 27" iMac and my Zoom backgrounds are perfect for some reason. I do light myself with a floor lamp and the room is a little darker than me.

I actually used to have a wall painted blue in my office so I could pull a blue screen, my eyes disappear in a green screen so that was not useful in the early days, these days most of the software won't take the eyes out of the middle of a face. Lots of companies make stands and green screen or blue screen (or both) material and you can set it up pretty easily. You actually may be able to get away with a big piece of green poster board though you may need to be sure the light is good, if you really just want it for Zoom, it may not be remarkably better with a much more expensive background.
