Greetings (problem burning CD with iTunes)

Hello ladies and gentelmen, just joined the site, a tad confusing compared to others in posting a thread, but got there in the end.
My problem is this, very appreciative if any one can work it out.
objective: Want to burn cd with itunes.
procedure so far: create new playlist from recently downloaded alfie soundtrack from itunes.
Go to file burn CD.
requests that I insert bland CD.
I follow request.
Little sphincter icon opens in top right hand corner to burn cd.
click to burn.
Please insert bland cd comes up.
No, I am using the write -/+ cdr/rw, works perfectly fine on windows media.
Could not transfer playlist from itunes to windows media. But that is another question.
Any suggestions welcome.

OK, leave the CD out, click on the burn disc button (forget file:burn disc, just click the button). When it asks for a disc, insert the disc.

thanks chundles for getting back very quickly, followed advice but comes up with checking media, a little bit of D drive activity and then goes wonderfuly dead. I state again, not a problem with windows media. It is not the cd and it is not the burner or drive. arggggggggggggggggggggggghhhh please help with this.

You keep mentioning Windows Media and D drives... Are you using a Mac or Windows computer?

EDIT: You also asked why you cannot transfer the music to Windows Media Player... WMP cannot play AAC files that were DRM'd by Apple's iTunes store. So if you buy music that way, iTunes is the only music player that will play them. (As is clearly explained by Apple.) If they're not DRM'd purchased music, then I just don't know enough about WMP. I'm not sure it can play AACs at all. On my Axim, I had to use TCPMP to play AAC files of the non-protected variety.

Nothing to do with the POS that is Windows Media Player, forget that. WMP plays absolutely no part in iTunes' operation. I used to have a lot of problems burning CD's on my old POS PC - I don't know what it is but iTunes is very, very picky about the quality of the media to which it burns. If my following advice about burn speed doesn't work I'd suggest some good quality, name brand media.

Another way around it would be to go into the preferences, select "advanced," then "burning" and lower the speed at which your drive burns.

I think this is just a little area of iTunes that works a lot better on a Mac.

I am on a pc, and if I understand you correctly chundles, my imation cd-r, is slightly substandard for the rather picky itunes.

Hmm, shouldn't be, I use Imation myself.

How about doing my old trick, seemed to fix most problems I had with the PC. Turn it off and turn it back on again, then try it again.

If I understand it though, you seemed happy with WMP, if you don't need to use iTunes and are happy with something else then why not stick to that?

Man, they're gonna roast me for saying that.

The problem is that as Mirkshman, apologies if I got the name wrong, put it. I can't transfer my itunes playlist aka Alfie the soundtrack and then burn it with windows media.
It is a present for my wife and she like to use the cd player in the car.
So I don't really care if wmp burns it or itunes. feeling somewhat irritated but I am warmed by your computer comaradery.

The alfie soundtrack was downloaded directly from itunes. Very clever of them to not allow transfer of their media files, although they will quite happily convert the other way round.

Yeah, you can't transfer it because it's not a file. iTunes playlists are I think embedded in the xml information that resides in a couple of files in the music library.

Try reducing the burn speed, try a restart of your PC and if all else fails, reinstall your CD drivers. I had to do that to my father's OC cause for some reason bloody Windows allows programs to interfere with other programs.

I really hope you get this sorted, my experience with iTunes and the iPod brought me over to the Mac when I go rid of my old PC. It's a shame you are having these problems.

It's the DRM, without it you wouldn't have downloadable music. You can't transfer music you buy from Napster over to iTunes either, it works both ways.
