Greg Packer bumped from iPad line!! LOL

The interesting part to me is this:

Gutjahr says Packer is angry about getting bumped. “He seems to be really mad,” Gutjahr wrote. “Funny thing: the media still thinks he’d be the number one who gets the iPad. But he needs to wait until the reserved line is done. And that one is lead by me. Who would have thought this?”

Sounds like the reservations line goes first and the walk-up line has to wait until the first line is done. That should make a lot of people angry in the morning.

I guess I would expect the reserved line to go first. Otherwise whats the point in reserving it before hand.
 
I can't believe people actually camp out over night and that one guy for days even when you could just preorder it and have it delivered to your door the same day. I don't know about other places but around here Saturday deliveries always come before noon, usually between 9 and 10 am. So in effect we will have it before even most of those people camping in the lines LOL seems rather idiotic to me.

Wait til these guys without reservations find out they are going to have to wait until 3pm to purchase one even after there is no line left LOL

I figured they'd have 2 groups of iPads, one area with all the reserves, and one with walk-up inventory, then let the two lines go simultaneously. Especially since the reservations can be picked up anytime before 3.
 
Some of you aren't paying attention. Packer wasn't camped out first in line to be the first to get an iPad. He was camped out first in line to get the media attention of being first in line.

This situation does make you wonder though about the lines. It made sense that there would be be two lines: 1) Reserved: short, go in and get your reserved iPad, guaranteed if you are there before 3:00. 2) The other line, stand in line and wait hoping to be near enough to the front of the line to get one of how ever many non-reserved iPads were sent to the store.

It makes no sense that Packer was booted off the front unless there are no extras at the store.

I was told by an Apple store today that reserved line gets them at 9am and they don't start selling to everyone else until 10am.
 
I don't feel for him at all. It was very clear that if you wanted to be sure you got an iPad, you should reserve one. When Apple stopped taking Reserves, it was pretty clear that Apple had reserved all the iPads that they planned to have in stock. I would imagine they used those reserves to send out a certain number of iPads to their locations.

I'm sure Apple would have sold walk in iPads, but from the looks of it, the iPads that were manufactured and ready for sale have all been either Pre-Ordered or Reserved. If you didn't do one of the two and expected to just walk up and buy one, you obviously don't understand Apple and the hype behind their products.

Actually, they should have just put him at the front of the non-reserved line. There will be two lines, at least at the store I talked to in LA.

Either way, he won't be the first to get an iPad.

That's not the case at all. I spoke to an Apple store today and they plan to have more than just reserved stock on hand. They expected to have plenty of stock.

Allow me to relate a sad story: I was awaiting a rather expensive shipment of books that were traveling via UPS. I had been tracking them because the weather wasn't particularly good and because I was eager to get them. Early in the morning, it said, "out for delivery"--terrific. I waited all day in spite of knowing from past experience that they usually deliver to our area about 6pm. At 7:30pm, I check the status again--"left at front door". That's odd, I think. You can hear any vehicle come down our driveway, both my husband and I were at home and certainly nobody knocked or rang the doorbell. So, I check the front door--nothing. I check the deck, ditto. Also not at the door downstairs, the kitchen slider or even tucked away in the carport. Bear in mind, it's pitch-black outside and raining. I am not happy. To shorten an already lengthy tale--we finally found the boxes. The next morning, in daylight, my husband spotted them. In a plastic bag. Tied to a post. At the end of our driveway, 1/5 of a mile from the house (it's a long, narrow piece of property), next to a road where any passerby could've seen them and driven off with them. When I contacted UPS to ream some serious butt, I was informed that their driver had been "afraid" to drive down our driveway in case he couldn't turn around--in spite of the fact that we get a fair few deliveries from UPS over the course of a year.

Put all that together and you wonder why I didn't trust UPS (or FedEx; that's another horror story) to deliver my iPad? Considering the number UPS will probably be delivering, I wouldn't count on your "usual" delivery time. ;)
 
Having waited in line for two iphones and a wii in the last few years, I would never wait in line for something that you could have easily ordered and had delivered the same day.

Seems insane to me.

Either way the loser is going to get publicity. Next he will probably try to sue them if he doesn't get one. What a knob.
