Greyed texting field

Anyone have a grey text box in messages since upgrading to 9?
The text is actually inputting but it's obscured by a grey box.
The only remedy seems to be restarting the iPhone and that only works for the current person I'm trying to text.

Looks like a bug where the voice message overlay appears even when it shouldn't... I saw this in the iOS 9 betas, thought they would have fixed it in time for the public release.

You should be able to fix it by just killing Messages from the app switcher and restarting it.

I'll try that. Hopefully that's addressed in 9.1
