Group Chat in iMessage

How do I start a group chat with iMessage? And what exactly is group messenging? Is it just like mass texting everyone? I am looking to set up more of a chatroom with friends who have iphones, would that be group chat?

Send a message to more than one recipient. Yes, I would call it mass texting (understanding that other eligible iMessage recipients will not receive it as SMS).

iMessage is always "chat" when sending to other iMessage accounts.

When sending regular texts, IF the Group Messaging is ON in the settings the phone tries to send an MMS to setup the chat (not available in all countries). As far as I know in this case you can't send to more than 10 recipients.
