I notice that if i send a group/mass SMS to a few people, the other partys will receive my SMS in MMS formate (black picture but with word).

Why isit so ?? Last time 2.2.1, when i mass SMS to people, they will receive as normal text SMS. But after upgrading to 3.0 it become MMS.

How come now iPhone 3.0 send mass SMS in MMS formate ???

Thanks,
Kenny

It's a bug or feature .... don't know.

But if you send mass sms's they are indeed send as a MMS which is not good!

I think it's a bug... Mass SMS is not MMS

This is no good.... I didn't notice it until when i receive my phone bill and notice they charge me for sending MMS when i didn't send any MMS.

After that i notice those MMS cost by sending mass SMS.

This is kind of crap...

Go to Settings > Messages > MMS and turn it off.

Yes this is one of the method that will work to prevent sending mass SMS as MMS. But we are just hiding the problem.

What's the point if i have to keep turning it off when i want to send mass SMS and turn it back on when i'm done ??

Other phone i can send "mass SMS as SMS" and "MMS as MMS"

Apple really need to sort this problem out ...

sending a group SMS

Hi all,

Firstly, I am new to this site and have just got my first iPhone 3GS, so don't shoot me down in flames if this is wrong.
I am in the UK and my provider is O2.

I have just sent a big group SMS without any problems, in the "To" box put your first recipient in via the add sign, yes the add sign disappears, but if you tap the name of the first recipient it re-appears, if you then use the keypad to search alphabetically for more contacts you can add as many as you like.

I had replys from everyone so it obviously works ok.

mass SMS only sends as MMS on phones with the hacked carrier file that gives u tethering and MMS

The reason why group SMS's get sent as MMS's is due to the carrier settings file (settings file that iphone uses for network settings like mms, data, etc ).

Its a line in the file which looks like this:

GroupModeEnabled=YES

That needs to be changed to NO and group SMS's will send properly. Unfortunely most official iPhone network carriers, when they provide the carrier settings for download from iTunes have this setting set to YES (the default setting). Also when an iPhone is on a network that is not offically supported it defaults to a Generic settings file where this setting is also set to YES.

Hope thats easy to understand.
