Hi MacRumors,

I’m the developer of GroupTab, an alternative app switcher for macOS that lets you arrange running apps into row-based groups to keep context and cut the usual Cmd-Tab clutter. Website: https://beshr.com/grouptab/

What it does:
  • Group apps into rows and switch within a group or hop between groups to stay focused.
  • MRU ordering for both apps and groups; Shift+Tab reverses as you’d expect.
  • Option+Tab to bring up the switcher; navigate with arrow keys or hjkl while holding Option (regular Tab cycles apps in a row also).
  • Drag and drop to organize; there’s a default group for unassigned apps.
  • While holding Option, you can move the focused app between groups with Shift+Up/Down (or Shift+K/J).
I'd love some feedback on whether grouping improves your flow vs Cmd-Tab, any rough edges or bugs you encounter, and overall performance and UX feel.

You can try by joining the TestFlight beta on https://testflight.apple.com/join/GhGVn9F2. You can check out some screenshots and more details on https://beshr.com/grouptab/.

I’ll use this single thread for GroupTab updates per the forum guidelines. For individual support issues, please use the support link, TestFlight feedback, or just email me directly, so this thread stays focused on feedback.

Thanks!

Update: GroupTab is now live on the Mac App Store!

Thanks to everyone who tried the TestFlight beta and provided feedback. I've fixed some minor bugs I found myself and from TestFlight feedback and now GroupTab is live on the Mac App Store.

The app is priced at $1.99, but I'm offering it free until September 26th to give everyone a chance to test it properly and see if it fits their workflow. After using feedback from this community and others, I'm confident it's ready for prime time.

For those who missed the original post, GroupTab is an alternative grouped app switcher for macOS, using Option+Tab. Basically you organize apps into rows so you can jump between them quickly instead of cycling through one long list.

I'll continue monitoring this thread for any issues or feedback. Thanks again to the beta testers!
