although the above post is a bit strong worded (aside of the spelling) i must admit i don't understand why so many people still hack their iphones.

it's well known that it is risky, it seems to be quite a hassle and in 6-8 weeks enough applications via the sdk will be available to get by with a regular iphone.
and if someone is on a different contract wouldn't it be better to wait till the contract is up and switch then than going through all the unlocking procedure?

somehow all the unlocking seems to defy the idea of a easy to use hassle free apple experience.:(

my 2 cents (on top of the $399 and $70/month for the iphone)

I totally disagree.

Apple is known for shoving down the consumer's throat what they think is best. consumers like me are shoving down apple's throat what we think is best.

Whatever anyone wants to do with their iPhone or iPod touch is up to them...but I think that screaming and yelling and blaming Apple when something goes wrong is what annoys some members.

If it works for you, that's great....and kudos to all of you who are so patient to assiste all the "OMG HELP ME NOW" posts which are on here everyday.

If you don't want to hack, then don't...and pass over the threads relating to it if you don't want to get annoyed

Just my two cents...not worth much, but worth something!!:)

What about people like me in countries that Apple will never bother bringing the iPhone to?

Unlock is the only option, I hate when people seem to believe that the only unlockers are people in the US that are on Tmobile and don't want to go to ATT, this is very close-minded. I would gladly use an iPhone legitimately the way it is intended to, if I had the option to.

So for those who think that hacking the phone is worthless after the SDK, think again.

And for the people who are annoyed by us "hackers" that hack our phones, go away. If you don't like it, then don't look at it! You are free to do whatever you want with the phone, we make our choices, you make yours. If you don't agree, tough luck.

There is a forum dedicated to hacks, and it is pretty easy to ignore if you want to. So there's no reason to complain.

Each of us has differing needs. Apple however gives us only one option in an $60+/month AT&T contract (or equivalent provider in other countries). And as mentioned, in most countries around the world, there is NO option at all.

So if that option doesn't fit our needs or isn't available, we have 2 options ourselves - either don't buy an iPhone, or buy an iPhone and use it in a way that may not be proscribed by Apple, but still works great (upgrading hiccups excepted).

Personally, if Apple offered a way to buy a legit iPhone with a pre-paid balance (and the AT&T "Pick Your Plan" option is not pre-paid IMO as you are still stuck with a $30/month minimum), I would use that in a second. As it is, I use a t-mobile prepaid card and pay less than $10/month total in calls. Unlocking it is a no-brainer for me, I don't want to waste an extra $50+/month just to be "legit".

Separate from the unlocking issue is also the jailbreak issue. Even with the SDK, I think there will still be a desire to have full access to the filesystem and hardware, so "hacking" will still continue. Who knows how restrictive the SDK will actually be?

Im fine with the unlocked phones, but for some reason people with unlocked phones also like to make stupid upgrade and jailbreak choices usually resulting in many problems. Unlocking is very risky, and on top of that, a lot of unlocked people want to keep trying the 1.1.3 upgrades etc. which usually end up bad...

how about the people going to europe every year and needs it unlocked thats what i did and im on At&t. So just wishing that unlocking worked by not jailbreaking. I wish i can just pop in a sim and i would be fine.
