GT7800 NVidia for PowerMac

Hi guys,

If I want to upgrade my video card (currently NVidia GT6600 256MB) to NVidia GT7800, which kind of brand that is suitable for Mac. So far, when i read the specs infos, more likely that those cards only suitable for PC's.
What brand that Apple were taking for their default NVidia 7800 setup?

Would anybody suggest me or well informed about these?

you can only get them from ebay at stupid rates, apple designs and has their cards made for them with an open firmware rom.

i'm not sure where the flashing scene is with pcie cards, i'll have a check and post what i find out.
 
Mac video cards are very slim pickings, good luck but thats the truth. Go to the Apple site and look up video cards and you will see one of Apples problems.
 
So, is it true that NVidia cards for Mac, is some sort of special customized from (whatever companies such PNY, Elsa, ASUS) which used an open source for it's OpenGL or D3D?
But before I bought this Mac, I've noticed that there's an option to choose the video card at the customize section.Which brand was it, hmmmm...interesting....

What kind of Mac do you have?
 
brands mean almost nothing with video cards, ATI and nivida design the cards OEM's build the board and can either load EFI (intel macs) bios (pc's) or open firmware (ppc macs) firmware, thus you need a mac pcie card for your g5.
 
7800GT is old news. The 7900GT sells for cheaper and beats the performance.

It does not matter if the 7900 GT is faster and cheaper, the NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT is the fastest GeForce available for the PCI-Express Power Mac G5. Therfore a GeForce 7900 GT is pointless since there is no available ROM for the Power Mac to run the 7900 GT.
 
So, after i do runabout here and there, went to apple store and another, to macmall.com and rest of those mac suppliers sites, apparently no particular brand for nvidia 7800 stated that they can be assembled on mac to customize on my own, :confused: :confused:

How about ATI, i'm curious about X850XT though......:cool:
 
No, the 7800 is not sold seperately for a Mac. You can only buy it with a new Mac as an option. You can however flash it. Look at strangedogs.com for more flashing information. The X800XT is however made as a retailed card for the Mac.

Nice! I knew they where working on one @ strangedogs, but didn't knew they where already shipping it! So, that's one more thing to consider when buying a new Intelli PowerMac.
