GTA 4 on iMac 27", nice?

So with the 256 MB card, it will do nice?
Not really. You'll be limited to low(est) graphics and resolutions. Get the 4850, it's not that expensive

Are we Europeans richer?You would be able to run it, but only at abysmal resolutions (think 1280x1024 or lower) with most settings turned down. Its a demanding game for the GPU, so unless you're willing to compromise on visual quality, all you will have is a slide-show.
The 4850 itself can barely handle GTA 4 at 1920x1080 at decent settings. So, even if you did have that card, you'd have to be running it at 1080p for the greatest balance of visuals and fluidity.

alas, why not have the option of a better card in the imacs? I see no reason for it.

Yea the iMac 27" with whatever graphics card isn't going to run it well. I have a custom PC gaming rig that i built myself with a core i7 and radeon 4870 (512 mb) and it still has problems at times at 1920X1200. I just can't imagine the 4850 doing any better. If you are into gaming and stuff, macs are definitely not for you. Of course you can get another machine (mac pro or PC) and input into the 27" as a monitor. There's just no way a radeon 4850 (or 4670) going to ouput 2560X1440 GTA IV anywhere near 30 FPS.

It should run great, I run GTA 4 on medium settings, except for texture quality and view distance and the res is at 1024x400 on my iMac below. It has 2GB RAM btw. It averages 18-22 fps. Not the greatest thing to play on, but yeah. I would get the high-end 27 inch because you get the 4850 and the optional i7. If you have the bucks, just get it. My friend's MBP 13" runs GTA 4 about 24 fps at the same settings.

But, what does ''smaller res.'' mean? Smaller screen (like 20'' with black around or whatever lol) or does the screen just look crap, the quality goes down?
Guess the last, just curious if that's still nice, acceptable and well playable..
You are certainly better off running that game off a console, PS3 or 360. It was first developed for the console and terribly ported over to the PC, it's a shame.
I'm not one to play games on my computers because I have a ton of game consoles to take care of that for me (all connected to a large HDTV as well), but even I see the need for Apple to have more powerful options for the video cards.

Smaller res means crappier quality. E.g. take a look at normal quality TV show and high definition TV show, there's the difference.
Get PS3 or X360 for games, that's what I do
Why dont you just get a 27" imac and not shell out 100 or so euros for it, buy a proper games console like and XBox or PS3.
It will be better for you in the long run to spend a little bit more for a games console, rather than a great graphics card.

PS3 for the win! Especially the Slim
With such a high res monitor it definitely is not built for games. But I would still say get the higher end iMac for the Quad Core CPU. It will last much longer and apps should start taking advantage of it. Unless something radically changes soon to allow clock speeds to start going up again.

Yup, it depends on games you like. I have Mac which is capable of playing all games but I mainly use my PS3 because I like its easiness and simpleness. Actually I ordered Age of Empires 3 for Mac yesterday because I love that game series and it's not available on PS3.
Guess I'll just get the basic 27'' then. Don't need anything more at all, just this one because of the awesome screen..
