Hello,

I want to buy a NVIDIA GTX 295 because I kinda collect GPUs and It has a max TDP of 285. I also want to use it a bit, i know my 770 is much better but still. My question is how do I setup something with a external power supply? I was on google but it only said I need to buy a power supply and hook it up to the GPU. Im a bit confused, can someone help me?

They have power supplies that go in the optical drive. They are in the neighborhood of 400 watts and run $40. I just pulled the one I bought on newegg out, pretty cool little boxes

There was a previous thread about external power supply in a classic Mac Pro here https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1714592/ Might give you the info you need.

I use the ePOWER and despite some reviews saying it was DOA mine works okay. One thing though, synch down the power connectors (from wall plug and the other one connected to SATA) because if you jiggle it ever so slightly bam the screen goes dark and you have to reboot to get it to work again.
