Hey everyone,

So I installed the latest Nvidia Web Drivers to use my Asus GTX 950 Mini in my Mac Pro, so I can use a 4K monitor. So far I have been using the GT120 (which is still in the machine for bootscreen), but when I switch the cable to the GTX 950, I still don't get any picture.

What could course the problem?

Did you check if your card is properly recognised under MacOS (when the monitor still connected to GT120), something like this.

#2 No, I didn't ! Maybe I should start doing that.

I'm considering connecting my 4K to the GTX 950 while having the GT120 connected to a spare 16" HD monitor, I have.
Do you think that can help out the problem?

I don't think that can help, but won't damage anything anyway. Worth to try.

What I will do is make sure the 950 is identify properly first.

If NO, then re-install web driver. Check it is selected. Or simply run
Code:
sudo nvram nvda_drv=1
in terminal to make sure web driver is selected

If YES, then connect the spare HD monitor to the 950, in order to identity if it's the card's issue, or the monitor's issue.

Yeah, I should try that.

My 4K "monitor" is actually a Dell 7775 all in one machine. I use that as my rig for gaming, but it has a HDMI in, if I want to use it as a monitor

Your driver is NOT installed completely/properly. Based on your picture here...

It shouldn't say "Display" for your GTX 950. Also say's "No Kext Loaded".

You can most likely resolve your issue by doing the following:

Check to see if SIP is enabled or disabled.

Open a terminal window and enter the following "csrutil status" without quotes.

I'd be willing to bet it says disabled. If so enable SIP by doing the following....

Boot to Recovery OS by restarting your machine and holding down the Command and R keys at startup.

Launch Terminal from the Utilities menu.

Enter the following command:

csrutil enable

Re-boot....

Re-install the web driver. The correct driver is 378.10.10.10.25.104. During the install you will have to allow a Gatekeeper exception by going to System Preferences -> Security & Privacy and clicking on "Open Anyway".

When the driver is properly installed it will identify your card properly like this. It will NOT say "Display".

If you plan to use BootChamp for bouncing between Windows and macOS you will now have to disable SIP by...

Boot to Recovery OS by restarting your machine and holding down the Command and R keys at startup.

Launch Terminal from the Utilities menu.

Enter the following command:

csrutil disable

Re-boot....

Or leave SIP disabled, and completely disable Gatekeeper by running
Code:
sudo spctl --master-disable
in terminal

did you check is there anything in Gatekeeper? (System Preferences -> Security & Privacy)

No, I will have to do that.

Update to latest MacOS

I can't - when I go to update software through "About this Mac", nothing to update.

Thanks a lot for the specific details - I will have to take a look at that as well.

I also have a chance to replace the GTX 950 for an RX 460 with no cost. That should work right away, right? I mean, like plug and play.

Should be, but not all RX460 work, e.g. AFAIK, so far, none of the single slot RX460 can work on the cMP

So I am getting this:

I tried to reinstall the Web drivers. Still the same.

I have installed WebDriver-378.10.10.10.25.104 although there is a ...105 and ...106, but both of those says the same Error:

Any suggestions of what to do?
Exactly what version of operating system and build number do you have on your computer? https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201260
Open "about this Mac" and click on the Version to see the build number.

That installer you have will only run on an iMac Pro.
You can find the correct driver here:
http://www.macvidcards.com/drivers.html
If you need the one for 10.13.2 with the supplemental update installed (Build 17C205), you need this:
https://images.nvidia.com/mac/pkg/378/WebDriver-378.10.10.10.25.104.pkg

It's not the Single slot version. It's the Asus version: https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814126125

Would that work or not?

Also how much hardware acceleration is there for the RX460/GTX950 compared to the GT120 when running Premiere Pro CC or After Effects CC?

Should work. You may go to this thread have a look if anyone use this card. And how the RX460 work on the recent OS.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/amd-polaris-gpus-plug-and-play-in-macos-10-12-6-10-13.2050945/

For compute, the RX460 should be +30X faster than the GT120

Premiere Pro CC or After Effects CC acceleration depends on a lot of things but you will see a boost from more vram (the gt120 has 512mbvram? not much today)

depends what you do but most the time any card faster than a gtx 660 2gb gives small improvements in 1080p
with 4K video 4GBvram on the gpu with any card newer than a gtx 660 will be ok

but depends on what your doing >.< single core cpu speed tends to matter and drive speed.
the video codec you use will make a huge huge difference
so working with h264 is slower than say prorez but prorez takes up more room so >.<
(DNXHD is worth a look to)

any way any card made in the past 5 years will be faster than the gt120 (and i dont think the gt120 is even supported by CC for acceleration) but GPU acceleration is less important than cpu speed/video codec/drive speed etc..
(depending on what your doing some effects are vary GPU dependent but there more specialized)

(tho im only on cs6 so my info may be outdated)

some things gain more some less, relay depends what you want/need id gess a cpu upgrade with a modest gpu will be faster than a super fancy gpu + same cpu
i swapped my cpu to the W3680 6c 3.33ghz, was a lot faster than my 4c 2.8ghz one when i rendered and fairly cheep compared to most gpus

CC is using openCL now so ATI cards are a good option

I cant wait to spend time with my machine :) Still waiting for my USB 3.0 pcie card and my dual SSD pcie card before I can start doing all the things.

After that I will be upgrading my CPU to the W3680 :)
And lastly add more storage (still got 2 empty HDD spaces)

always tend to share this link
https://www.pugetsystems.com/all_articles.php
puget systems dose some relay good tests with pro apps that show how CPU/GPU/HD change things in apps, all tests done in windos but most things will stand true on osx with the same app (but maybe a touch slower)

have realistic expectations and have fun, also if needed use proxy's.
