GTX 9xx Drivers Built In

Can anybody confirm, or does anybody know if there are plans for GTX 9xx cards with built in support? I am using a standard NVIDIA GTX 980 (PC card) and it would be nice if I didn't need to rely on my laptop when the OS updates in order to get new drivers.

Just like a few OS versions ago added support for the 6xx series. I was wondering if they are planning on doing the same thing? Or did they shift to all AMD now?

Well, what I would say is apple might not drop support for this card, if this mac pro is still under the support of El Capitan.

This is also a subject I'm very interested in. I've heard some rumors here that EVGA were very open to the idea of bringing full Mac support to a run of GTX 9xx cards. I've also read that MVC was working on flashing the 9xx series and had gotten close to 'cracking the code.' These are both rumors from last year, I believe, and have not seen anything more recent to validate either.

I'd very much like to know if EVGA is any closer to making this a reality ot if any vendor has begun flashing the GTX 9xx series. I'm hoping to get a 970, myself.

I'd love to see out of the box support for the 900 series. I'd buy a 970 in a heartbeat if anyone released an official board, but that likely won't happen unless we see out of the box OS support at the very least.

This is what frustrates me a great deal. How much wider does the gap in power, heat, and performance between nVidia and AMD have to get before Apple switches? AMD cards are HORRIBLE right now. They are huge power hogs, their TDPs are through the roof, and nVidia cards that draw half the power and half the TDP spank them. The excessive heat that AMD cards generate is an even worse problem when you consider the ultrathin computer casings into which Apple packs its components like sardines. Heat is incredibly damaging to computer components. From an engineering standpoint it seems appalling to build computers this way when nVidia offers such a superior alternative.

Not just that but also the watt to performance ration. A GTX 960 uses only 120 watts absolute peak. For laptops, theres really no reason for Apple to continue using AMD cards, they're terrible with power consumption.

I have always found NVIDIA to be better. I only used three AMD cards. Two of them had very bad performance. The other one came with my 2010 Mac Pro and was actually pretty good with gaming.

No, you have to use the nVidia web drivers.

Thats the problem, I have it installed and updated in the HD, but nothing shows up. I onluly managed this by using my Mac book air as a screen to boot my HD and then replace it back inside my Mac pro. Now what?

I feel the same way as many of you here do and also wish for updated Nvidia drivers to be built-in to El Capitan.
I have tried my best to avoid ATI/AMD GPUs for a while now due to a number of bad experiences I've had with them failing because of the insane amount of heat they generate. In my opinion, the current Nvidia 900 series (less so with the GTX 980 Ti), are fantastic in their balance of performance per watt ratios.

The rumor that I read said that Nvidia asked for far more money for their GPUs than AMD, which is why all the current Macs have AMD GPUs. The fact that the latest Nvidia drivers optimize performance so much more than previous versions may act as a deterrent to having them included in El Capitan since no current Macs have Nvidia GPUs. Apple has zero incentive to make their current lineup appear even weaker.

You'll probably have better luck asking this here, but make sure you installed it correctly with all the power it needs, and you installed and enabled the correct driver version for your Yosemite version.

Also, I don't think it will show the boot screen regardless, you may need to wait for it to boot up.
