MP 1,1-5,1 Gtx680 how read gpu die temperature ?

hi all,

I’m running a flashed gtx680 in my MacPro now for a while.
But still have not found a way to read any gou temperature.

I would like to know the gpu die temperature and if possible to read other gpu temperatures.

Ive used tools like macsfancontrol and istat menu’s.
But non of these where able to give me any info.
So far I have not been able to found another solution trough using google.

I hope somebody can help me out,

Logitech’s Arx Control app monitors basics like load, temp, and fans. It’s not the greatest but certainly functional. There are probably other options but I am more familiar with the alternatives for windows instead of OSX.
 
ok thx, but Logitech’s Arx Control app does not support GPU Die readings and other GPU readings ??

I hope somebody can help me out..
 
Try HWMonitor a hackintosh program that works for mac machine readings too. It will give you every reading under the sun.

It works perfectly fine all on its own reading the sensors on a Mac without Fakesmc.kext loaded..

Ok great, i will try hwmonitor app with my flashed GTX680..

Looks like your 5770 is very hot, always 85 degrees celsius. ?

Most times I have looked yes it is that hot. I do not use that machine much anymore it is mainly file storage for it now, turned on once ever week or so. I use my hackintosh now three times as fast using under 10 watts idle vs the Pro at close to 200. I did miss that heat last winter not now it is summer...

If it has the sensor it works for it I think, but now I fired up my 4,1 I see it has that for the temperature too. All the others I can see changing as the machine warms, up not the GPU so it looks like that is just a number it picks and stays at now I have checked again.
 
hmm, I have found hwmonitor , but it will install fakeSMC plugins.. ?
No way arround this, and fameSMC hackintosh plugins could make my install unstable ?

How did you managed to run hwmonitor withouth fakeSMC kexts.. ?

You shouldn’t be forced to install fakeSMC, there should be an option if you choose customise installation.

You may also manually remove the fakeSMC kext if you accidentally installed it.

It looks for the devices exposed by the operating system when booted. The FakeSMC or its plugins actually, create the proper device tree when they load on a hackintosh. These are read when the program runs you can use something like Pacifist to extract the file without installing the others.
 
ok, installed hwmonitor today.
did not select FakeSMC kexts,

unfortunately hwmonitor i think cannot read the GTX680 gpu temps.
it only shows 85 degrees celsius, which is not correct.
looks like the same result als @MacUser2525 has.. ?

Is there perhaps another way for me to read my GPU temperatures.. ?

I found this one liner for the Terminal somewhere else, it does a reasonable job for it. Not sure if it reads the same readings that hardware monitor does but it does report similar results to it.

AFAIK, won’t work for GTX680
 
one simple way to look at GPU temp is to boot in to windows and look there, temp will be about the same as osx

or just let it be and not think about it

i never relay look at GPU temp in normal use. is there a reason you want to see it, or is it just for fun?

Yes bootcamp is a way indeed, but I would like to have the possibility to view the GPU temperature within MacOS.
I'm not running bootcamp..

Of course checking the GPU temp is not a thing i do 24/7, but at least have the option to see once in a while if it's not getting too hot would be great to expand the lifetime of the GPU.. ;)
 
well as much fun as i used to have with the old atmonitor app (used to give lots of GPU info now dead)

in windows when i play games i do like to see GPU temp but in part that's just me having fun playing with my GPU undervolt.

if you relay care about GPU temp, re do the thermal paste and replace the thermal pads as the GTX 680 is fairly old now you may get some real gains there.

also want to point out that the GPU will have a fixed thermal target in bios that it will stick to so the card will not 'overheat' it will boost fan speed and if it still cant hold the temp target it will then dynamically downclock to hit the thermal target.

from memory i think the GTX680 will hit about 85-90c then downclock

yeah thx, I know and will repaste and total clean the card someday.
But still I would like to get the GPU temperature die visible within MacOS.
Same btw also applies for our 2011 27" iMac's with upgraded Nvidia kepler graphics cards.

When running tools like final cut pro and such, it is nice to get some temperature reading if possible.
And in my opinion it is always a must to be able to at least read the temperature.. ;)

I hope there is a way possible, somebody.. ?
