Ok for a little experiment I put a non flashed GTX680 in my Mac Pro 5.1 just to see if it reads 2.5 or 5 GTs well it reads 5 GTs which is good, but one thing that stood out to me was how fast it booted being a non flashed GTX680. no boot screens but its faster to desktop than a flashed GTX680 which is weird.

yes you get the boot screen when its flashed but its defiantly slower to desktop. I wonder if the new boot rom for the Mac Pro 5.1's has anything to do with it?

With BootROMs of the MP51 vintage, Non EFI cards that I tested take the same or more than EFI ones. So, maybe it's a 138 thing.

It seems that way, very strange indeed. but either way it makes no difference once booted. just some thing I noticed.

Can’t say for nVidia cards, but EFI/AMD boots faster than non-EFI/AMD on 138.0.0.0.0 on my cMP 5,1

Yea just strange with the GTX680, maybe because apple supports the amd cards, can't test with a efi AMD card as I don't have one to test. but I would have thought EFi would have been better, The RX580 seems ok just no boot screens, the only amd card I have.

I asked the below in another thread and got no response, perhaps here:

^^^^ Yep, I understand - Have you tried HS with the 138 FW? MY MVC flashed GTX 1080 also runs at 5 GT/s, but System Profiler reports 2.5 GT/s.

yes I had high Sierra installed up until this morning on my other Mac Pro with the efi gtx680 with boot rom 138 and it was at 5GT/s so worked as it should, never tested the non efi gtx680 though in HS. I was going to put that into my windows machine to flash it, but haven't yet.

Sorry, I only just now moved the EVGA GTX680 Mac Edition to a 138 ROM running HS instead of Mojave; System Information says 5 GT/s and I am getting enhanced GPU function as well, BOINC running Einstein@Home, latest Web drivers and latest CUDA.

A single GPU Task (LATeah) with one CPU core dedicated to it now finishes computing in 24 minutes instead of 105 minutes under older 0084-0089 ROMs.

Didn't want to post this until I saw at least a day's worth of tasks get completed.

Another machine running with an EFI flashed R9 280x saw the same type of improvement in GPU calculations, with a single task now taking 20 minutes instead of just under 2 hours. The improvement only happened after I installed BootROM 138, cleaned up by tsialex.
