While at the latest ruby on rails conf I saw a demo on a fellow programmers macbook pro of a GUI developer tool that lets you route audio video through filters and what-not and create screen savers and little apps using what looked like encapsulated program modules. These modules seemed to represent system native functions like video and audio inputs etc.

All he had to do was route these modules together (drag drop / arrow connectors like the reaktor music program by native instruments) and export it all as a screensaver.

Wondering if anyone knows what this tool is called? I'm drawing a complete blank.

thanks much!

Yes, Quartz Composer is very cool software. There's a whole list of things I made that would make it better though, such as to have lots of 3D primitives other than just cubes, ability to import your own 3D models, ability to write your own QC modules (plugins), and better, more comprehensive antialiasing. Zugakousaku-san is very talented for getting what he did out of it. Another really cool thing about QC is that you can hook into it through code, I've already written a more advanced particle generator that uses QC via Cocoa/Obj-C. The problem is that currently the transfer mechanism for getting the particle data to QC for constant refreshes makes it run not so fast.
